Booked a table for 4, when we arrived, they insisted on... read more Just back from a horrific night at this restaurant. From pretty much start to finish, it was a disaster. Booked a table for 4, when we arrived, they insisted on squashing us into a table for 2. Only that we asked other a couple that were leaving if we could have their table, we would have been eating with the plates on our knees. We had ordered a special surprise cake for our friends birthday, as soon as we arrive, the waiter in conversation mentions the cake out loud and the surprise is ruined with 2 minutes of arriving. We were never given a menu, had our drinks order taken nor provided with an ashtray, all had to be asked for after a decent amount of time. The food itself was absolutely basic and ordinary, bland and tasteless. Appetizer of fish looked like it had just been thrown together and out on the plate, no detail or preparation of fresh fish. We had 3 course meal and before desert the waitress insisted on taking every plate away in 1 go, as she did this, she dropped a lot of empty mussel shells from the plate right in front of my partners eating space. We assumed that this would be cleaned but it never was, meaning trying to enjoy desert with old mussel shells rolling around, not exactly a picture of romance... They saved the best for last however, upon leaving and asking for the bill we noticed that the amount seemed extraordinarily high.. we questions some items which were scribbled off and a new total was present, however the calculations of this were still incorrect... When paying there is 3 or 4 different people that approach the area asking if things were good and offering limoncello shots etc, it is very easy to get caught up in it and simply pay and move on. We paid and then outside reasses the bill, despite having noticed an overcharge of 70 euro, we still found another 60 euro that we had paid but never ordered. For me, the payment and how it was done, felt a complete game to get us leaving with a smile and not even think about the bill that they were presenting to us. For me, we were overcharged nearly 50 per cent of the actual price we should have paid and looking at how it played out, this did not appear to be a mistake... I would certainly hope that everyone visiting this restaurant and especially tourist are very vigilant when paying. Overall, really poor service and experience, would avoid at all costs..

After wandering a small town outside of Genoa, I realize I had not eaten and it was that awkward hour (5pm) when Italian restaurants are not yet open (they open... read more After wandering a small town outside of Genoa, I realize I had not eaten and it was that awkward hour (5pm) when Italian restaurants are not yet open (they open at 7) so I wander into Libeccio Cocktails Dreams. It is packed. Located on the water, is obvious the place to be on a sunny Saturday afternoon. There is no English menu and none of the waitstaff speaks English. The chef comes out and through trial and error I am told to be patient; they will find room for me. I am finally shown a prime table and the chef appears with a glass of Prosecco on the house. I had taken a look at the menu, but other then a few words here and there I was at a loss. With my trusty google translator, I tell the chef to choice. His face lights up, I receive a kiss on each cheek, and off he goes to the kitchen. The next thing I know he is presenting me with a PLATTER of food. I was surprised there was no fish, as we are right by the ocean. That being said, this was the best meal I have had in Italy. Simple but well seasoned and well executed. I can’t speak to the menu items and it looks like they may not get as good reviews, but given a little freedom, the chef was able to produce great food. The steak was outstanding!
