My dog had lost his ball, and someone at the foot mentioned that the café had a box of replacements. I can't express how much this saved the day! At the time, I wasn't drinking coffee anymore, but the cake looked so delicious and the staff was so friendly that I ended up going there today with my niece and granddaughter. I also noticed a sign offering ice cream for dogs, which I absolutely loved! View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Watergate Cafe:
Initially thought it looked good for kids as plenty of toys and room. However after the very loud comment about the scrambled egg on the floor from my 2 toddlers and disapproving looks I can’t say I’ll be rushing back. There are baby changing facilities however the staff don’t like dirty nappies in the bin and state they haven’t got facilities for this?? So although it looks child friendly they obviously don’t like t... View all feedback.

The café is beautiful, although when I visited on Thursday at 2 PM, they had run out of sausages for the customers. However, the dog-friendly option was still available, and the café seems to be quite popular with dog walkers. The food is good, especially the cake, and the staff is very friendly. Pro tip: skip the fried eggs.
This café is fantastic for both dogs and their humans. The selection of food for everyone is impressive. We opted for kangaroo sticks, lamb tails, and doggy ice cream for our furry friends, while we enjoyed coffee and scones. The homemade cakes looked amazing, especially the cream egg cake! The staff member who served us was incredibly friendly and mentioned that they will soon be offering dog agility classes in the back of the café. They also had liver cake, homemade dog biscuits, and more for the pups; I was amazed at how well they cater to both dogs and humans. I will definitely be returning! There’s even a sniffing wall for the dogs. It's the perfect spot to begin or end your walk at Watergate Forest Park.
I've visited the café twice in the past week. On the positive side, it's dog-friendly and kept clean and tidy. However, I found the decor quite uninspiring, although that might just be my personal opinion. To be honest, I didn't feel very welcomed by the staff; they came across as somewhat unfriendly. The food was decent—definitely better than my recent experience at Morrison's café—but still pretty average and slow to arrive. Overall, this venue has great potential given its location, but it really needs to improve its service and ambiance.
This cafe is fantastic! It's friendly and welcoming, with beautiful coffee and a cozy atmosphere. It’s very dog-friendly and has tasty treats available, along with even a ball for playing! We visited on a very rainy day, bringing along three soaked dogs, and the lovely staff couldn't have been more accommodating and helpful. After spending two hours in the rain at Tanfield, stopping here made every soggy moment worthwhile. We will definitely be back!
