Contribute Feedback What Mary K doesn't like about 1849 Buffet:
When entering the restaurant, my husband, nor l was greeted. Instead, the person said, Take a look at the buffet, if you like it, its $22.95, and our debit machine, we take cash or we will charge it to your room . We ate there, the food was cold. The tables were empty, wonder why. View all feedback.
If I could give this zero stars I would. I am not exaggerating when I say this is the worst food my family and I have ever had. We couldn't take more than 2 bites of anything without fighting the urge to vomit. It doesn't help that we spent about $100 for 3 people to eat dinner, and no one took more than 2 bites before leaving our plates and going to our hotel. We ended up eating the corndogs that were available, because it was the only food there that was actually edible. My family and I were sick the entire night and it carried on into the morning. If you can, bring food before coming to Death Valley and plan your meals ahead of time. DO NOT COME HERE!!!!!
Came here for lunch with my husband and two kids during a recent stay at The Ranch. The buffet was very disappointing. It consisted of a very pathetic and underwhelming salad bar, and the main course area consisted solely of Shepherds Pie (which my husband said was not bad), pulled pork (which I thought was ok), Mac n cheese (which was not good, even the kids did not like it), beans, and grilled veggies. For the price I was hoping there would be greater variety. I would not eat here again and wished we drove the 20 min to Stovepipe Wells again and ate at the restaurant there cheaper, greater variety, and tasted way better.
None of the items on the buffet were the correct temperature. Soup-cold, baked chicken-cold, fish-cold, mashed potatoes-cold, and stale, mac and cheese-cold and gross. My wife tried the fried chicken strips just to see. Same thing. Cold and stale. I told the manager and he said nobody else had complained. I said that's because there's nobody else in here. He said no worries, get another plate, I'll tell the cook. I said why would I get another plate of cold food? I watched the cook come out and stick his thermometer into the food. He shrugged. Not sure what that meant. After spending $85 for two adults I ate a few bites of salad and left. Maybe it was a one off experience, but I don't think so. I'm just hoping I didn't eat enough to have food poisoning. Be careful here. Half a star for the three bites of chocolate cake that was meh.
This buffet is absolute **** value for what Is charged! The food is pathetic and selection terrible! The beef pieces looked like they had been reheated and reused for a couple of days. We used to go to this restaurant a few years ago before being taken over by the current corporate owner and the food was much better. There used to be a centerpiece BBQ on which steaks would be prepared to order and it felt like a real restaurant with very nice service. The current situation is a poor substitute. I'm sad to see the old restaurant replaced by this. Other changes to the Furnace Creek properties are also a downgrade in my opinion.
