I've traveled to about 50 countries and this RT is one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten. This place needs more reviews but because it's off the touristy areas, it seems only locals and lucky tourists like me have eaten here. The owners are a very sweet couple, the husband makes all his food with love and with such flavor. AFter 3rd night going there, they felt like my family. I swear, I wished I stayed in madeira longer just to eat every single meal for every night stayed. The food is so cheap too: best filet mignon meal was only USA$13, in USA this would be twice maybe 3 times price b/c inflation. I was lucky to stay in Castanheiro Boutique Hotel (CBH)which is only hop skip and jump away (30 second to 1 min walk) from RT. CBH has nice but expensive restaurant so if you want same so delicious meals for half price, go to RT!!

I agree with most things that have been written: The owners were most agreeable and run a single, large roomed cafe/bar frequented entirely by local people when we were there in the early evening. Our main fish courses were very filling and the standard appropriate to the comfortable environment and lower end price. It suited us fine. The lasting memory is of couple eager to please.

We had a few sandwiches at this tiny restaurant. It was really local and cheap. We paid about 11euros for two persons with drinks. The service was kind and the atmosphere was pleasant. Quality of the meal was all right. We recommend this place to everyone who wants to eat at local non-touristic place.

Small restaurant, comfortable and friendly. Felt like we were out of the tourist zone. Very clean. Delicious and not expensive.

We wanted authentic Madeiran specialities so my daughter ordered espetada, beef on a skewer, and I ordered espetada, black scabbard fish. We each ate half of each and neither of us wanted to hand over to swap. The beef was delicious, tasty and tender, obviously marinated in something lovely. The fish is served in different ways here but we chose it with banana as we had been told that is the local delicacy sounds disgusting. It was delicious. We chose salad with the beef and vegetables with the fish, both of which were varied and nicely prepared. The wife served us and the husband cooked. Both were very friendly. The place was spotlessly clean and totally unpretentious. The food was much tastier than we have had in more expensive and touristy places. Definitely a find.
