Snack California - Funchal

Paramos aqui fora da rota turística. A comida era boa, comemos o hambúrguer especial no Bolo de Caco, o expresso estava super muito quente, ótimo creme e o preço de 2 refeições, 2 bebidas e 2 expressos era muito barato, 17€. O serviço foi amigável e rápido. No geral, achamos ótimo e só podemos recomendá lo!

Almoço muito bom e atendimento muito simpático. Recomendo a tradicional linguiça portuguesa (Alheira e claro a deliciosa cerveja local Coral :

5 Star rating doesn’t imply that it’s the Ritz, in fact it’s nearly at the other end of that scale, but the California does all that it sets out to do. Tellingly it’s clientele is locals, who use it for what look like great simple meals and a drink, with very few tourists like us. We found the California on a day, some years ago, in Funchal off a cruise ship, tucked away off the main streets between the centre and the covered market. We’re now on a week in Funchal, and hoped that we would refind it, and I’m glad to say we did, again ‘accidentally’, having now made a better note for future use. The local beer and quiet back street seating are excellent, as are the snackettes supplied gratis! Quite what sets the California apart, against other bars, I’m not quite sure, but the locals know, and the result is an apparently thriving and welcoming establishment.

We had a lunch in this restaurant and reason to visit was that we notice it very popular by locals. Prices were also low so why not to try. Other portion was Macaroni which was pasta with slice of have, fried egg, some spare rib pieces (no bones) and tomato sauce. Portion was big but not very tasty. Value for money vs. size of the portion was ok. Other was some fish and we probably get other fish than we ordered but it is probably our fault. We maybe said bit unclearly what we like to have. Fish was not good at all. Service was ok and atmosphere is here quite different than most of the places. Could I say original . Not our favorite but why not to visit.
