Barreirinha 'small barreir' means that. located on the corner of the rua do Asp.Mota Freitas/Calçada do socorro, only 100m uphill, east of the historical fortification of 'são tiago' around 1614 and the beautiful 'igreja matriz de santa maria maior or socorro right next door. here my elders married in 1961 and because of my first visit with my mother we discovered barreirinha. And after that we have often returned because his kind of place that feeds your souls. barreirinho, literally is a small corner, with a long family table, extensive train line, bar rack counter and side extension for busy barkeeper cocktails. it can also be over the pavement for 3 5 tables outside, next to any door, door door. the magic, only 10 meters above the road, is where everything happens. it is located on the edge of the water line next to a cemented wall over molten larvae rocks, with access to it, for mica joy. it is open panoramic view of the horizon sea, the funchal 'pontinha' harbour with cruise ships and the colorful old town of 'cidade velha ', brings absolutely joy. and to surpass this, the sun goes down west shortly behind the 'Pontinha' wall, as the moon rises from the east in full light. very spectacular to see this movement of dance. these amazing sunsets have attracted a fanclub of 'ra' sun-beter, with me included. it has created quite a stir among the visitors of the local. so much that finding an empty chair table is hard. all about timing, but as usual, ask the friendly staff to reserve them, for availability, or they can always sit at the adjacent low wall using it as table for their drinks and free snacks, as the box plays. the outdoors have sun umbrellas for most, although I love the open sun. Smoking is allowed in this open area 's the toilets are inside, not user-friendly for disabled. bar menu is quite extensive with a horde of local cocktails freshly pressed, stiff, supple, shaken, stirred or mixed. champagne, juices, weine and ja got local craft madeira lab bier beautifully cooled for this, 'pôr do sol' sun moments. food menu is standard and good part of the price. here everything is made from ground. so it is time and geduld is honored as they watch on a cool cold drinks cruise ships, motoyachten or the local ferry to porto santo, entering or going 'lobo marinho'. the box or 'groovey dj ' plays music in later part of the day under the shadow of the trees. very talented dj(s), who know that their nuts are moving. great value for this chillaxing area. parking space next to the tables but usually full but continue uphill take them left and there is a covered payment parking with 2 etagens on the right side. go to the narrow road of rua asp. de mota freitas and here. overall this bar has excellent sea, sun harbour view, eating is great and the quality of the drinks is freshly balanced, chilled and meets the place. CC cash accepted. 15% tipp not included after their measured. when they disguise in the old charm of the new, they will think, definately return, as I keep the tradition of 'groovey' alive. if this was helpful, please immerse.
Large place with view of the sea at the rande of the bustling part of the old city (ost of the continued). burger, sandwiches, salate and burritos are the most important things on the menu, both beef/bascon burger and bbq huhn were good. good selection of craft beers on the bottle and a few on draft. socorro made by madeira bier lab specially made for this bar.
As everyone says, the location is amazing. It’s really relaxing hearing the waves in the background. The cocktails are very nice and reasonably priced. We only had a small meal but the portions were generous and the food very tasty. Would definitely visit again, but don’t be surprised if you have to wait for a seat overlooking the beach. There also didn’t appear to be much of a queuing system with people often racing to grab a free seat as people were leaving.
