we called in the late afternoon before the evening and were greeted with a beautiful white wine (vinho verde) and a local red. both delicious. they were not cheap, but they did not bring us to grim. we would like to try this place for an evening and enjoy a few glasses and eat. but what we saw, we liked. we had our last dinner of a week in Funchal and thought we had a glass of wine on the way back to the hotel. Best wine shop in funchal. good pairing of weeping and cheese and tapas. very surprising suggestions of filipe. I now understand why the name of the shop is wein passion.
That was the lighthouse of our journey to madeira. we have visited many restaurants in the course of the years, including 1 and 2 Michelin-star restaurants throughout Europe, but never we have visited such a place. it is about taste, taste, taste, taste and then taste, taste, taste, taste, taste, taste. because the setup cannot compete with Michelin-star restaurants, but at the end it is about taste and service. knowing about wein, not only weeping from portugal and their robs, but also knowing about robs and weeping around the world was impressive. if they enter the wine shop, they will be interviewed and based on the kind of wein they want, the owner will suggest a wein. if you want to eat what we recommend to them, there is a menu from which you can choose, but do not do that, listen to the owner, because depending on the wee they have chosen, he will be a suggestion for food that corresponds to their choice of the wee. the best we have ever tried to travel to southern Europe in the more than 30 years. if we could, this weeping should have 10 stars and not just a maximum of 5 stars.
This place is everything you could wish in a weeping. they have an incredible selection of Portuguese weeping and all to taste it on the glass. the owner is incredibly knowledgeable and is very pleased to show his customers everything portugal has to offer in terms of wein. to complete everything, they have a fabulous selection of cheese and sausages, all from portugal. we could have stayed there for many hours, just chat with the owner and try more wein. all the oenophiles who visit madeira must make this shop/bar a visit!
Nice wine store bar. Great selection of wines and a really knowledgeable owner with perfect recommendations. A must visit for wine lovers!
This is an excellent place to learn more about Portuguese wine! You pay by the glass and is not committed to buy anything more than you drink. We tasted a white and red wine recommended by the host after giving our preferences and was very surprised. Highly recommended for anybody that loves wine and would like to taste Portuguese wine.
