Madeirinha Cafes - Funchal

We were looking forward to revisiting for coffee and/or lunch, but unfortunately this branch has closed (as of 03/10/21)

This is our favourite cafe in Funchal. Busy at lunchtime with locals, which is always a good sign. In the S Francisco arcade, just behind Blandys, so can easily be missed. Really reasonable prices 1 coffee, 1 homemade lemonade and a pastel de nata all for €4! Clean and comfortable with indoor and outdoor seating and table service. Extensive lunch menu, with great soup.

..........and to be honest I have no idea if they're a chain, or a franchise. Whatever, we used two of them and they were both brilliant. Great cakes, great coffee, great staff, and very reasonably priced. OK by UK standards, dirt cheap. But superb. If you see one, do yourself a favour and sit down........

Popular with locals and tourists. Super friendly staff with comfortable outdoor seating. Bollo di caco with garlic butter, bacon and cheese! It’s as good as it sounds and very reasonable drink prices. It’s a great spot for people watching. Enjoy!

The Madeirinha cafe is one of those places that you find by chance, when you slip down an interesting cobbled alleyway. The Arcadas de Sao Francisco leads to a retail arcade, but on the one side is an immaculate patisserie, with a wide selection to tempt you and tables either inside or in the alleyway. Excellent quality, service and cost.
