We were recommended to try dinner here during our stay and so made a point of booking in advance. We were seated quickly at a table of our choice, outside. The restaurant is in the hustling old town which really lights up with activity in the evenings. The tables were quite packed together, we felt a little like we were eating dinner with a bigger party. Ok if you're pretty sociable, but be aware if you're looking for a quieter night. Service was a mixed bag, with different waiting staff dipping in and out for different duties at different times. They obviously had their hands full with a number of covers but we went from over attentive to ignored at different points in the evening. The food was lovely, with lots of different options to choose from and some unique recipes and ideas. Every dish was well presented and had good flavour, however; the octopus was very oily, leaving a significant pool of oil on the plate; and the shrimp curry shells and heads in the sauce which gave good flavour but needed fishing out to enjoy the sauce. Dessert was a triumph a pumpkin lava cake with a goats cheese ice cream. It was unusual, but well balanced, and came together beautifully. All in all, we really enjoyed our meal and would eat here again as the overall experience was very good and the price was very fair for the quality of food.
Really a discovery in the number of restaurants of Funchal: good food, good service, nice people! We have value for the money we spent and a small taste of Madeira 5 years old at the end :
Always great service and food. We have to go to the restaurant when we are in Madeira.
The food itself was good 4.5/5. Service was a 3/5 not particularly good. One person was friendly and one had a little bit of an attitude at one point. Pretty hard to get a waiter’s attention (i.e., not particularly attentive).
