What Duyên Đổng dislikes about Dona Flor:
Meat fine, price quality relation good. The starters are tuned to european Tastes and so are the sides. Missing fried yuca or bananas and the feijao is ok, but not that creamy salty sumptuous beans with pig ingredients so typical for Brazil. The wine was ok and fair priced with a good selection of malbecs from Argentina.Service hearty and friendly on the slow side. All in all a fair experience in a small Swiss farmer s... Great food along with perfect service in an old, cozy room makes for a great evening. We'll come back soon.

Even after living in Switzerland for 7 years, we still haven 't found too many really good restaurants in Switzerland. Mind, we are saying this from a value/price ratio perspective. You do have quite a few excellent restaurants scattered around, but they come with a horrific price bill too.Anyway, back to Dona Flor. We came across this restaurant pretty much by coincidence. We were in the neighborhood, hit up our TA app and looked for nearby good restaurants. That 's when Dona Flor came into the picture.Well, the first thing that blew our minds was the view from the terrace. You can see both Lake Neuchatel and Jungrau from the terrace not close by, but still amazing to see in the distance , otherwise lots of green terrain, mountains, lakes plus farmlands. In parallel, internal decor is simple/humble, but polite with barely audible ambiance music in the background. Pretty much just as we like it.When we saw Dona Flor on TA, what intrigued us at first was finding a South-American Brazilian/Argentinian restaurant in a small village in Switzerland. We barely have good South-American restaurants in Basel and here we are talking about a village of roughly 230 residents. Nice! With this South-American style, probably came a similar attitude when it comes to service. It was friendly, with exactly the right amount of honest ! chit-chat none of that fake **** you get in very snooty places and pretty efficient. Definitely no problems with that either. Now, on to the food: oh je. Lovely spicy chicken soup and then an amazing 500 grams of Argentinian Picanha steak that we could prepare exactly as we wanted to. Partnered with some classic black beans and rice and some out-of-this-world sauces. Yummy... so-so good, we could go back and eat more right this moment : And all this for a very reasonable Swiss price, as you can also gather from the 2 dollar bill classification. One of the sauces for the Picanha was so good in fact that we asked for the recipe. To which we received the fair, but unfortunate answer: it is a family secret. Well, all we can wish in this case is that the family secret continues on for a long-long time in health and joy.To the entire crew at Dona Flor: thank you again for the lovely experience. We really hope we can meet again!

I went with my mom and we both enjoyed! Delicious rice, beans and meat. Also the customer service was superb. If going with 2 more people, try “Panela Mineira”, which looks like a meat hotpot with delicious rice and beans.

Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: CHF 70–80 Recommended dishes: Feijão Preto
