Le Chantilly - Fribourg

The place is located in the pedestrian street Rue de Romont, where there are several restaurants and cafes next to each other with outdoor seating. One evening I sat in a place that has two different names: 'Khantilly' and 'Suard', because the 'Khantilly' is now part of the 'Suard' bakery chain. I had my usual pre-dinner 'cardinal' beer and then asked the friendly waitress how at what time the breakfast is served. She told me that on the terrace of 8 o'clock, upstairs in the tea room on the first floor of 6 o'clock. The early hour was perfect for me, but above all I had seen on the menu that I would have the chance to try two of the most typical Fribourgs specialties, hardly anywhere else. The next morning I was in the tea room and ordered the "Petit dejeuner Suard". The coffee was a '9/38' from Switzerland (the name refers to the width 9 and the length 38 of Addis Abeba, capital of the country from where coffee originates). A small orange juice was also served. The interesting thing, however, was the 'Cuchaule', an AOP-Brooche-Brot, to which saffron was added. It is only found in Fribourg and is traditionally eaten with Bénichon Senf, beside mustard with flour, white wine, candy, cinnamon, star anise and 'vin cuit de poires', another Fribourg specialty. It was spicy and sweet, but together it was an original combination that usually has mustard for breakfast? and I liked it.

Upstairs: the coffee shop, centrally where you can enjoy a refreshment and/or sweets, quiet, cozy atmosphere, popular among the locals of all ages. Normal prices.

On est arrivés à midi et quart, il n'y avait plus de fruits, plus de saucisses et très vite plus de croissants aux amandes, pas vu non plus de pain complet ou lait froid pour les céréales. Le terme "à volonté" n'est pas réaliste. La salle est exiguë, la table pour 5 minuscule (pourtant réservée une semaine à l'avance.) Toutefois le cadre est assez agréable. Les produits que nous avons consommés étaient bons (tresse, brioche, croissants, oeufs au plat, jambon, fromage.) Le café très bon.Le concept 'brunch' inclut 2 boissons par personne. Le personnel et le prix sont corrects.Il n'y a rien de prévu pour les enfants, pas même une table à langer aux wc, une chaise adaptée ou des jeux.

Comme toujours tout est délicieusement bon autant à la boulangerie qu au petit tea room mais la sympathie dès serveuses laisse à désirer. L accueil est toujours très froid et on sent qu on est des payeurs plutôt que des clients à satisfaire et c est très dommage. Mon ami a eu une employée très froide et tout juste sympathique par contre moi un jeune homme apparemment en formation mais très sympathique et proche du client.
