Five - Fribourg

For my pre-dinner Cardinal beer from Fribourg (still the most popular here, but now brewed elsewhere and part of Carlsberg) I liked the row ouf outdoor cafés on central and pedestrianised Rue de Romont. On three evenings I went to three different places, always ordered a 3dl of Cardinal blonde (pale lager) pression. Everytime time it came in a different type of glass and with a different price: 5 CHF, 4.10 CHF or 3.90 CHF at the Café Five, so named because of the house number. A waitress with the loveliest smile let me wait a long time before passing by to take orders, let me wait again to bring the beer and when I said that I would like to pay now, she said that she would pass soon, since she didn't have a purse with her. As expected she didn't show up, until quite some time later I managed to get hold of her. She might have been alone, but the place was far from too busy.

It was a Saturday morning and we happened to sight an empty table on the sidewalk outside the restaurant. As indoor dining was not permitted during the pandemic, this was the only way to enjoy a meal served at the table. The friendly Rumanian waitress assured me that their pizzas were locally made and oven-baked and I ordered a one. My wife ordered the roast beef served with French fries. The red Italian wine, served by the glass, was good value for money. Watching the people walk by on this pedestrian street, we decided to linger for a while and ordered desserts and coffee. My wife and I shared our desserts. The chocolate mousse melted in my mouth with a delicious aftertaste. The panna cotta served with raspberries was equally delicious. It was an unforgettable experience enhanced by good service.

Das Restaurant ist wahrhaftig äußerst geschmackvoll möbliert. Keine billige Dekoration, sondern es war farblich alles stark hübsch auf einander abgestimmt.Ich kann behaupten, bis jetzt hat uns noch nichts enttäuscht! Es war jedes Mal eine Geschmacksexplosion in meinem Mund.Mein Mann und ich sind völlig positiv überrascht. Wir beide werden auf jeden Fall zurückkommen.Wirklich schneller und netter Dienst. Ich finde, dass das ganze Lokal Personal dort einen tollen Job gemacht hat.

Das Essen war sehr gut. Der Besitzer war sehr großzügig, als er die Verdauungsschnäpse anbot. Wir werden bald wiederkommen.
