I started coming here as a kid and since moving back it's a regular and affordable treat. Highly recommend getting your dish cooked to order and knocking back a beer while watching the human parade down the mall. View all feedback.
What mitchrj doesn't like about Hong Kong Dim Sum:
Nowhere as good as it was. Couldn’t eat it all. So many places are now closed. Could be the ‘entertainment’ a guitar guy giving hiccups. Not good eating music imho. I won’t be back in a hurry. View all feedback.
We came mainly to listen to Steven Chooky Keir who busks outside Old Shanghai on weekends. Unfortunately we arrived too late (2pm) and he was just packing up I had been really looking forward to hearing him again, after I came across him by chance one day. . This guy is so talented I could listen to him all day. He occasionally plays at E Shed in Fremantle and also in the Hay St. Mall. I 'm just amazed that someone so good doesn 't have a permanent gig I 'd be there every week! The food from Old Shanghai Chinese was very tasty but the vegies were slightly overcooked for my taste I like my stir fry really crunchy. I bought some drinks from the Old Shanghai Bar and found a seat outside and was amazed when the lady from the bar came looking for me to return a small gold locket I had dropped. So thoughtful and kind, especially when she was working on her own. She 's really friendly and also makes a great vodka, lime and soda! Good food, excellent drinks and wonderful music if you arrive around 10am. I really recommend Old Shanghai and hope hope Steven gets some permanent gigs he should be working in venues, he 's just too good to be busking.
I had vegetarian flat noodles at the Thai stall. They are simply divine and cheap. Not sure about the rest. The red curry was very average.

At the Thai Kitchen I recommend Seafood Ka Pow. It has delicate flavours and fresh veggies stir fried with some prawns and squid. It is quite yummy with chilli sauce on the side. The total cost in Sept 2022 is $15.50 AUD. That's okay. It is no too salty or too rich. The other meals are average. Takas Japanese fusion is mediocre at best. The other stores have closed due to the covid interruption and high rents. The Indian place is below average. It used to be better but these days a venue like this having one or two pretty good meals is terrible. That is why it gets a mediocre score from me. The other good thing about the venue is the rickety outdoor tables under the large maple trees. That is one of the main attractions on a nice Summer day. Otherwise the indoors area is very basic. It is a food hall along the lines of a Hawkers Hut in Singapore but without the good variety. The drinks are overpriced at the bar.
Not many food stalls open now, Tasty taste was so nice now disappointed as closed. Have been going there for years also been cheap and cheerful place to eat.
