Very nice and traditional ambience! All the food was pretty good, but the strudel and the house made Weiss beer were superb! Very good value for your money!!!
A large restaurant beer hall in a small industrial area south of the Isar. We visited on a Thursday lunchtime and there were only a few people in, giving us a good choice of tables. The brew kit is visible behind the bar, and the main room is decorated in a traditional Bavarian style. We were presented with the menu and asked what we would like to drink. I asked for a small glass of each beer, but unfortunately they had had a problem with the brews of the dunkle and the schwarzbier so I only got to try the Helles, Pils and weisse, which were good. We ordered a Schweine haxen and a quarter roast duck. The haxen was tasty and crispy, the duck was a tad over cooked. There was a lot to eat so we declined dessert. The bill was very reasonable for what we had.
I don't know why the English reviews of this place are so flattering. It's really not good. There were five customers on a Saturday night at 7pm if that tells you anything. Food was poor, beer was 'blah', and service was adequate. Menu was limited and quickly got expensive. Honestly, do yourself a favor and skip this one.
Freising is a town of corporate breweries, so it was good to find a local place where there's a focus on honest service. The weissbier was tasty and our meals were true to Bavarian style.
