The restaurant was busy with an almost full patio. This is always a great sign! We enjoyed their salads, tacos and quesadillas. Service was quick and food was plentiful. You MUST try the deep fried ice cream - decadent. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Mexicali Rosa's:
This place was just terrible. Nachos were really bad with very little cheese and the rest of the topping were chopped up very small. It also had a tomato sauce all over it which was just rancid. This was a second chance visit and I was let down again. Don't waste your time stay home and make your own Mexican food and save your self the disappointment and money. View all feedback.
Staff were fabulous, very good atmosphere, food was tasty as well as authentic. Indoor or outdoor dining
We stopped in for nachos and a beer on the patio on the way home from work. Succinctly, this is Tex-Mex done badly. This place is about as "authentically Mexican" as I am (which is to say, not at all). The real sad part is that the restaurant that used to be in this building *was* authentic Mexican, and it was amazing.I've been here several times (few of my own volition) and not matter what you have, it tastes like it just came out of a box. Everything they make tastes processed. Really, the only consistently good thing on the menu is the free chips. We had the chipotle chicken nachos. The menu says this consists of corn chips, seasoned chicken, bacon, monterey jack cheese, onions, green peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes & honey chipotle. Some of this is accurate. The chicken is not seasoned, there is no "honey chipotle", and there is some sort of mysterious red sauce drizzled over the top. It can't be salsa, because it looks exactly like ketchup. The other weird thing is that all the toppings are finely diced. The server said it was the best thing on the menu, which is a problem if true. They have a long way to go to catch up to the best nachos in town, which are the BBQ chicken nachos at the Snooty Fox. Finally, although they have the best patio in town, they have the worst beer selection. In a city known for it's local brews, the most exotic thing you can get on tap is a Rolling Rock.Staff are pleasant. We had to ask for water and cutlery.
Went to meet my husband and friend for lunch today at noon. Was busy as it was Friday, but not full. \So after waiting several minutes, our waiter came over to take our order for both drinks and food simultaneously. I had to ask him to get a pad and pen to write it down as I usually have some sort of variation to the order. He took our order at 12:10pm. At 12:20pm I had to ask if we will be getting the nacho chips and salsa that normally accompany each visit. The waiter gave the excuse that they ran out and are making more. (Ran out?! On a Friday noon hour?! Seriously?!)At 12:40pm, we inquired as to our order. Waiter said that they were very busy and have new staff in the kitchen and that it would be an additional 15 minutes.I don't know about you folks, but when I go to lunch during a work day, I only have an hour and normally Mexi's is great for this, but not today. And truthfully, their new staff issue is not a customer issue. I don't want to hear that they have new staff and are not able to keep up with the orders. My concern is that I am hungry and on a time limit. Finally, after an additional 10 minutes, our order came out.Mine was wrong. I sent it back. While we waited, my friend found an entire avocado pit in his guacamole. Not kidding at all on this.My order came back, it was still wrong. We were told that we wouldn't have to pay for our lunches due to our experience, which is nice, but I would have preferred to have good service and eat what I actually ordered.Another waitress spoke to me about the whole ordeal and gave me a couple of the same excuses as to why it wasn't going well.So I left my husband and friend and did not eat lunch.Mexi's: A few words of friendly advice from someone who has worked as a cook and watiress in the food industry:1. So not train new staff on busy days/times.2. Train your staff to not give customers excuses. We don't care what your issues are, either serve us or advise that you are incapable of proper service in a reasonable amount of time.3. Train your servers to do things in a specific order. Show them to their table, ask for drink order right away, always have a pad and pen to take orders properly, take their order in a reasonable amount of time (if the menus are down, it's time) and most importantly, make sure the order is right and on time.I am a frequent patron and hope my next experience is similar to the ones before today. If not, they will lose a bit of business as I am not shy to tell folks what I think.
