Was Brian A. Becker at Cork Table a mag?
I don't use the word "exceptional" often, but my experience at Cork and Table truly deserves it. The service was attentive, and the food was outstanding; the Butternut Squash soup was like a taste of fall in a bowl. The sautéed Wagyu medallions were tender and flavorful, served with perfectly prepared mashed potatoes and green beans. My partner loved the Asian Stew with shrimp, praising its rich flavors and balance.... View all feedback.
What Brian A. Becker dislikes about Cork Table:
The service at this restaurant was excellent. The wagyu filet mignon was exceptionally delicious. While the crab and corn chowder was runnier than I anticipated, it still packed a great flavor. The only drawback was the surprise at the bill, where we discovered that tea was charged per glass, as this hadn't been mentioned during our meal. View all feedback.
We dined here last night for the first time and were impressed by the attentive and efficient staff. The food was outstanding. My spouse, who is vegan, usually has limited choices like a beyond burger, a dry salad, or a curry dish, but here he had a full menu to choose from. He thoroughly enjoyed his vegan pea risotto, cannellini spread, espresso dessert, and portobello salad. I had the opposite experience, opting for the crab sherry soup, wagyu medallions, portobello salad, and a parfait. The wine selection is quite impressive as well. My only (minor) suggestion would be to play some soft background music. This was the best meal we've had in Fredericksburg, and we truly appreciated the inclusive menu that caters to various dietary restrictions, including options for vegans, vegetarians, and those with gluten sensitivities.
The service we received from all the hostesses and waitstaff was outstanding, but unfortunately, the food itself was mostly just mediocre. My boyfriend ordered a steak cooked medium, but it was served rare. I found my scallop entrée to be on the small side—I received four scallops with some dressings, which felt insufficient. Throughout the meal, we enjoyed wine pairings with each course. However, the evening took a turn when, at dessert, our server brought us a wine pairing. At that moment, a man who seemed to be a manager or owner publicly reprimanded her for making a mistake in serving us the wine. This incident was quite unprofessional, especially since it occurred in front of other customers. To add to our disappointment, we noticed him returning to the bar twice to drink while on the job. Due to this experience, we will not be returning to Cork and Table.
We had our 38th wedding anniversary dinner there on July 28, 2022. It was the best meal I have ever had at any restaurant in Virginia. We will definitely be regulars. Outstanding food and service. I am originally from New Orleans and have dined atAntoine's, Brennan's, K Paul's, and others. Cork and Table is right up there with the best.
4/27/24 update....BEST. MEAL. EVER. confirmed. And the napkins are upscaled!!! 5 stars plus. So amazing. The atmosphere has been seriously updated since my last visit. And the napkins before were seriously an issue and they now are not. The food and wine pairings are extraordinary. Possibly the best meal I have had. Just a really elevated presentation of food and wine pairings. That said, while the meal clearly is star if the show, the decor and ambience is just, well... Odd. And so odd it is distracting and undermining to an otherwise transcendent meal. The decor left me with a cognitive dissonance that still befuddles me. So just be ready to ignore it. I will over and over again as this is a dining gem in a city of culinary excellence. Reading other reviews... Agree on paper napkins? Like regular paper napkins. Just like odd. Call me and my friend and I will come do a makeover.
On the eve of Mother's Day, we were hoping for a pleasant dinner, but instead, we found ourselves in a cold, isolated room. Our server, who appeared unkempt and wore a baseball cap, didn’t inform us that the parking lot, which is part of their building, was permit-only. As a result, our car was towed, and we ended up spending over $500 that night. I strongly advise against this restaurant! When we brought the issue to the attention of the lead server and the chef, they offered no explanation and simply shrugged it off. It was quite disappointing. To top it off, the food consisted of tiny portions and was mediocre at best.
