Auslander - Fredericksburg
Auslander
Description
At this charming restaurant, guests are welcomed into a vibrant atmosphere that perfectly captures the essence of German dining. While many rave about the delicious entrees—such as the smoked sausage, Reuben sandwich, and impressive desserts like apple strudel—there are some inconsistencies in side dishes, like overly salty sauerkraut and lackluster potato salad. Vegan options are thoughtfully available, along with attentive service and a friendly staff. Despite a few critiques, the hearty portions and lively environment make it a great spot to enjoy a meal with family and friends, attracting patrons eager to experience authentic German cuisine.

For our meal, we ordered Fried Mushrooms, the Venison Sausage plate, the German Meatballs plate, a Kid's Mac n Cheese, and a Kid's Hot Dog. The fried mushrooms were fantastic, especially with the ranch dipping sauce. However, we weren't particularly fond of the venison sausage. We had ordered red cabbage (which is sour) as a side, but the dish also came with sauerkraut. In hindsight, potato salad would have been a better choice. On the other hand, I absolutely loved the German meatballs. The plate featured three generous meatballs accompanied by delicious gravy. I highly recommend the fried mushrooms and the meatball plate!
Everything was absolutely delicious! The food tasted incredibly fresh and homemade. The portions are generous and filling. Their fried pickles are outstanding! The customer service was friendly and very welcoming. Definitely a great value for the price!
As delicious as always! The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. The food came out very quickly, which was perfect, since we are on a road trip! Just a heads-up; portions were rather large!
They have a limited option for vegans, but when I chose the Meatless sausage and then asked for dairy free sides he was on top of it!
We dined at the Biergarten, where I ordered the plant-based sausage plate featuring two sausages, either Beyond or Impossible—I wasn't certain which. They do offer vegan sauerkraut made without chicken broth. However, the French fries are fried in the same oil as the meat, so I opted out of those. While the menu has limited options, as others have mentioned, you can definitely find plenty to eat. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and our waitress was well-informed about the vegan choices available.
