Description

**Dining Experience at Fitzroy: A Delicate Balance of Style and Value**

Fitzroy offers a stylish yet relaxed ambiance with a well-curated wine list and a concise menu focusing on fresh, local ingredients. While the food quality is exceptional, diners have noted that the portion sizes often feel disproportionate to the high prices, leading to mixed feelings about overall value. The service stands out—warm and personable, enhancing the experience, yet some patrons found it a tad slow. Despite its upscale atmosphere, Fitzroy may cater more to adults, making it less suitable for families. For those seeking a unique dining experience, it remains a noteworthy option.

I had a wonderful birthday meal! The food was delicious, and our waitress was incredibly attentive and knowledgeable.

The food was excellent, though it was a bit pricey. We dined at Tresandton in St. Mawes the day before, and the prices were comparable, but the establishment I mentioned is significantly more upscale.

The atmosphere is pleasant and the food is delicious. However, since it's an old building, it can get a bit chilly at night.

Why 3 Stars? The restaurant is stylish and the food is of high quality. The service, while not the fastest, was warm and friendly. However, the main issue is the relationship between prices and portion sizes, which felt outrageous. With only four main dishes to choose from, it was challenging to find something that appealed to other diners in my group. Fitzroy had a somewhat pretentious vibe, almost experimental, and seemed very self-involved in a philosophical sense. It brought to mind an American sketch comedy show called Portlandia (a somewhat obscure reference). One memorable episode featured affluent diners with bizarre requests at a restaurant that caters to such clientele. The warm service helped mitigate any attitude problems, but the restrictive menu and exorbitant prices were apparent. The kitchen is skilled, but unfortunately, it doesn't offer good value. In the end, it simply felt absurd.

We were excited to attend this restaurant but had our child fall ill the evening due to attend. I emailed the restaurant to apologise for the no show a few days later, as they proceeded to charge me £100 for a no show fee! Stating they're unable to refund despite circumstance, and the amount seems very excessive. Visitors beware!
