What User doesn't like about Fort Nelson Hotel Restaurant:
Overall the service was very good and the food arrived promptly it was not well cooked or well presented though. I have been there for breakfast lunch and dinner and all meals were adequate to say the best View all feedback.
I was initially drawn to this restaurant because of its unique decor, but I was disappointed to find it run-down and poorly lit. The restaurant has recently changed ownership after going out of business and being sold by the bank. Currently, it is undergoing repairs and getting a new roof. Unfortunately, the pool area is not well-lit and inaccessible. The staff mentioned that the pool water is cold, although I cannot confirm this. The staff is friendly, and the rooms are affordable, but if you are able to, you may want to consider staying somewhere else.
The stay was comfortable and clean. No problems encountered. If you are looking for a nice looking room, look elsewhere. Room showed its age. During check in, clerk was very friendly and helpful. Check out was a different story. Lady seemed to be bothered/troubled for doing her job. She was rude. Price was reasonable; included a kitchenette. I would stay again.
Today was Queen Victoria's Day, May 24th, and the whole town was closed! Initially, we thought the restaurant looked a bit run down from the outside, but later learned that it was built in 1920. Over the years, a TIKI room was added in the 60s, followed by a wing. This explains why it may appear aged. The town is small, so there isn't a lot of foot traffic passing through. However, the rooms were decent and served our need for a place to sleep. Despite its age, the TIKI room was impressive and would make a great venue for events. We especially enjoyed the band playing atop the bar. The receptionist was very friendly. I gave it a 3-star rating due to its historical significance.
The receptionist was multitasking, managing the restaurant and front desk. Unfortunately, the night shift staff did not arrive, and the front door was locked at 10pm with no access until 6am. The initial room we were given was not cleaned, so we requested a different one which also lacked cleanliness, with an unswept floor. Although the bed was made and the bathroom was tidy, we were disappointed overall. There were very few guests in the restaurant, suggesting that others may also choose not to return.
Woodlands is the nicest hotel in Fort Nelson. Loved our room a it also provided a toaster, microwave, coffee maker, with plates/cups and utensils. We are on a 5 week roadtrip all over Northern BC and Alberta and were able to make toast, cereal and coffee in our room. The hotel gift shop provided milk, juice, food, and even Ben and Jerrys Ice cream pints!. Appreciate the guest laundry for us who are traveling and its availability 24hrs. Woodland knows how to provide all the needs for travelers which also includes free wifi (spotty-had to repeatedly reconnect), cable tv, ac/heater. The only negative is the hotel restaurant is only in the PUB, not the restaurant. And food service is only till 9pm. We arrived at 8pm, and when we tried to get something to eat, were told the kitchen closed at 9pm. But we were told that we can drive down the road to Boston Pizza...so we were good! We did not like the idea of dining in the pub, so we did not do breakfast at Woodlands. I recommend this hotel as it is new, well designed and comfortable. It is the nicest hotel in Fort Nelson! ps, we were able to see the northern lights if you drive outside of Fort Nelson. Awesome light show!
