Our first visit here. very friendly reception. we chose the menu of 23 euro with a very fine entrée, with local goat cheese. also the main menu had regional qua... read more Our first visit here. very friendly reception. we chose the menu of 23 euro with a very fine entrée, with local goat cheese. also the main menu had regional quality that we stressed by drinking the regional weine, a fine Auvergne wine from boude! what I also. is that it is a list of fournisseurs from the region together with the menu! we will surely be back to this beautiful auberge!

(Deep-Landes-GPS... read more Probably as beautiful or more a village as the prestigious salers, near, this auberge is worth the hunt that they lead despite their balky gps. (Deep-Landes-GPS units struggle: we had 3 and none of them agreed during our...tour from south and central France.) this gas house is located in fontanges, a tallage that rivals the hill salers, 15 minutes away. the ankle of the kuhglocken all around and a small castle in the village surrounds the gas house. it is not on the “Grande-Route” but a parallel road underneath only at one entrance to the fontanges. (visually on the unusual white madonna statue next door.) the guest house looks traditional, but is very modern in the interior, with clean rooms, good mattresses and tiny but modern bathrooms – in our room the wc on the bedroom level, the shower a staircase to a “loft”. hot water on request. also a restaurant in the Demi-Pension, it offers locavore/local product-based meals, good. you can ask for an all-veggie version of the menu. the garden is well landed and full of bird world. the nearby statue and krypta, built in a rocky outcropping, seemed unique, although there is also one in a nearby village. it is pleasant to go the quiet village. also in the next season, many groups of tours use this gas house.

(... read more Arguably as beautiful or more a village as the reputed Salers, nearby, this auberge is worth the hunt that you may have to conduct in spite of your balky GPS. This inn is in Fontanges, a valley setting that rivals the hilltop Salers, minutes away. The tinkle of cowbells all around and a little chateau in the village surround the inn. It is not on the “grande route,” but a parallel road below it just at one entrance to the Fontanges. (Key visually on the unusual white madonna statue next door). The inn looks traditional but is very modern inside, with clean rooms, good mattresses, and tiny but modern bathrooms—in our room the WC on bedroom level, the shower up a staircase to a “loft.” Hot water on demand. A demi-pension restaurant as well, it offers locavore/local produce-based meals, good ones. One can ask for an all-veggie version of the menu. The garden is well-landscaped and full of birdlife. The nearby statue and crypt built into a rocky outcropping seemed unique, although there is also one in a nearby village. It is pleasant to walk around the quiet village. Reserve ahead; even in the off-season, many tour groups use this inn.
