We ended up making a dinner reservation for the next day at the insistence of my husband, with the help of friendly gentleman who we assumed was the owner. The classic bistecca was the best I’ve had in the city, and the potatoes were also delicious. For variety, we ordered the cannelloni as well. All the dishes, along with the recommended red wine pairing, were fantastic. If we come back to Florence, we’d definitely love to eat here again. Price per person: €100+ Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

This was our best meal in Florence. We had wine, pasta, and the steak was the best we tried. True authentic Italian and not commercialized like many other restaurants. Highly recommend Buca Lapi. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: €50–60

Really distinctive and original place. We were feeling the whole atmosphere of Florence and different times while having dinner there. The steak was just as perfect as it could be. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: €60–70 Recommended dishes: Steak

Sorry to report this is not as good as it used to be We paid a lot of money for a meal that was a 6/7 There are so many new and old restaurants who serve a better meal at a better price. We felt rushed and our waiter made us feel like he was doing us a favor serving us Sad was one of the best of the best

Please see the attached photos of the Bistecca alla Fiorentina, which Buca Lapi themselves tout as stellar I'll let the photo speak for themselves. When the steak arrived, I cut into a few random spots to check doneness, noticed it was sordidly overdone, and called a waiter over. They insisted this was normal and not overcooked, explaining that because it was from a female cow the meat turns a different colour than what we would be more used to seeing in bistecca alla Fiorentina. To their credit, they offered to redo it, but cautioned that it would come out exactly the same. Ironic, given their penchant for inconsistency. I was already wary of this place because of reviews of inconsistency, but for a restaurant that prides itself on bistecca alla Fiorentina, how does this even leave the kitchen? The chocolate cake they comped was stellar, though.
