Quivey's Grove Stone House - Fitchburg

It was a Saturday night and we were at a loss for where to eat in Madison. Last minute find and last minute reservation resulted in a great meal. Our server was so attentive and very accommodating. She even read the note I have on Open Table about my son’s fish allergy. I was very impressed. My family ordered the duck entree, short rib and white fish. All were very excellently prepared. The muffins they serve instead of the complimentary bread were to die for. I asked for the remaining muffins to be packed to go. When I walked out of the restaurant without them, the server came after me with the muffins in hand. Wonderful place and excellent server!

Salmon was delicious. They offer weekly specials that are excellent.

The food and service are very good here, but actually dining is a miserable experience. Or first trip, we were seated alone in an empty room. The only person we saw was our server. It was boring and lonely. The second time, we came with two friends, and we were seated in a very small room that might have been either a nursery or pantry. I go out for the whole experience, including being among other diners. Our experiences at the Stone House have been chores, not pleasures. We tried twice, but won't return.

Quivey's has great mid-week specials. Sign-up on their website and you'll be notified. This week we dined on small plates that highlighted some of their favorites: a trio of apps, the duck, and the lamb. Ordered a Cabernet by the glass that complemented the dishes wonderfully. Topped it off with an order of the steamed pudding. Delicious meal!

The underground tunnel we used to get to our table was pretty neat. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. I had the baked fish fry and it was really tasty. Fish was cooked perfectly. The complementary muffins are a plus too! Would definitely recommend.
