Was Anonym at Irish Loop a mag?

We did the Irish Loop in last days of June and were surprised by how slow the speeds were posted and how many pot holes there were. The driver best keep eyes on the road when viewing the scenery along the way. Interesting villages one after another. We did get a treat and saw an iceberg at the southern tip. Take your time and enjoy the ride...don't go if you're pressed for time as the road conditions and speed will d... View all feedback.

What Anonym dislikes about Irish Loop:

Asked the people at Gatherall's puffin and whale tour in Bay Bulls, where we should go for lunch in Ferryland and recommended this restaurant they called Kavanagh. Our bill called it the Irish Loop Restaurant. It is a restaurant on the Irish loop drive therefore the confusion in some of the previous reviews that seem to check the ride and not the restaurant. Restaurant is Diner style. The food was okay. The view was... View all feedback.

The coastal drive is stunning and offers opportunities to stop in small towns along the way to explore what they have to offer. However, the area is quite populated, so it can be challenging to find parking. Be sure to stop whenever you can to fully enjoy the experience.

Quaint little place with with furniture from the 60s .Very comfortable.Th food was good but I feel the portions were rather small..Saying that the quality of the food was good .

We left St. John’s at 10:00 and got back at 5:00. We stopped in several places. It would have been nice to stay near Trepassy to have time to go out to Cape Race. Many people complain about the potholes in the road. The max speed limit is 80 although it reduces through every town to 30,40 or60 so you can’t go very fast. When you drive over the speed limit at 100 the road can get a bit bumpy in places but at 80 it is very easy to drive. There are a few sections where there are potholes but these sections are marked and they had all been filled when we were driving. In general the road is in very good condition. We stopped at Tors Cove as it is a very pretty spot and then were told by a local to drive to Brigus South which is just off the highway and is a very beautiful spot. From there we went to Ferryland, purchased a huge sandwich at the local grocery store and visited the Avalon colony. Closed in Oct but you can enter free of charge. This may be the most beautiful section of the Loop. After here the vegetation dramatically changes. It becomes flatter and more remote with no trees at all. Our next stop was at the visitor center at Portugal Cove South. A small museum explains how this has just become a Unesco world heritage site. We were told we may see caribou in the next section of the drive but we didn’t. We drove through Trepassy and stopped for a late lunch at st Vincent’s. There are picnic spots here and at Point La Haye. The ocean views are spectacular in both of these towns. From there a drive back to St J.

From St John's to Ferryland as the point and back for us but was a beautiful drive with lovely towns and coves along the way. Bay Bulls had an off shore Oil rig in. that's a sight huge!! Where are you going to see that in Ontario!!

We spent a week exploring the Irish Loop. It is a beautiful coastal drive around the Avalon Peninsula. The Eastern Coastal Trail follows roughly the same route and we hiked it in a few different locations....great views and wonderful cliff tops to sit and watch the whales frolicking. The Loop is chock full of quaint fishing villages each with their own charm. The only drawback is the very rough (in areas) road lots of potholes on the main road so just be aware and ENJOY!!
