We had a nice meal at this restaurant. Service was friendly. I wanted to try piri-piri chicken which the Algarve is famous for, but I got grilled chicken which wasn’t special or piri-piri. (I later discovered that there’s some general confusion online over the translation of ‘frango assado’; the English menu should call it ‘Grilled chicken’ not ‘Piri-Piri chicken’. What Simão Macedo doesn't like about Restaurante O Velho Novo:
it looks nice, but flatters to fool compared to competitors. the staff was pleased to ignore customers and jokes and chat themselves. it was not busy and it took a while to produce a menu, and we saw that two others had to eat outside to get drinks. The food was average - veal was not veal. it was huge, but not very delicate. squid was a little chewing. Prices were slightly higher than others in the city. View all feedback.

O Velho Novo never fails us. We love coming here for a high quality seafood meal and wine. Great service... just a wonderful restaurant.
Great Portuguese food and good service too. Our table had beef, pork and fish and everyone was pretty happy with their plate. I'd go back without hesitation.
