This steaming hot bowl of congee was GIGANTIC and this was no exaggeration. LeeLoo was the only diner and was doubting her ability to finish all of it because it was seriously fit to feed three mouths at least. However, being the beast that LeeLoo is at eating congee, she managed to finish all of it including all of the you tiao. View all feedback.
Consistent HK styled chinese food. This is our local go to place when we don't feel like cooking. For dinner, we go for for the set for 2 people pick 2 dishes from the list vege rice complementary soup.
This is a typical kind of Hong Kong style cha chaan teng (cafe) which is right here in hurstville. They offer the full cha chaan teng works.. Breakfast sets, lunch, afternoon tea sets, and a range of Hong Kong style dinner dishes. I found it by chance, and I ordered the breakfast set with instant 'doll ' noodles, ham sandwich, and ice coffee. Service is the usual abrupt and not so nice, but that 's not what I came here for.. It 's the value for money Hong Kong food, and experience.
Agree that it is as good as you get for Hong Kong cafe food. It clearly is a local favourite. We did stand out a bit not being from the area but we overcame the language barrier.<br/ <br/ Zomato says $60 for 2 people this will see you VERY well feed. For $60 we each had a soup (1 dumpling one pork noodles both are main sized serves) a pork dish and a prawn dish again both very generous on size. And, rice. <br/ <br/ Fortunately it's normal to ask for containers to take your remains home. We have plenty for dinner tomorrow night.<br/ <br/ Other: booking not needed, BYO, cash only.
Definitely surprised by the food here. Don't judge a book by its cover. The food here was just fantastic. We usually come here during the day but we discovered the dinner set menus and it delivered alright. The XO crab with vermicelli was phenomenal as was the salt and pepper pork.
I was initially drawn to the Good Kitchen by a photo of 皮蛋瘦肉粥 on its Zomato page. This implied to me that it would be a quick and easy place to get a quick and easy feed. It was only until we were situated and tea had been served that I realised that The Good Kitchen is very much a legitimate restaurant, complete with its own live seafood tanks (more on that later), and not as accommodating for a quick and easy meal. My girlfriend will attest that I deliberated leaving after looking at the menu, but ultimately stasis was the basis of my decision.
