Tavernaki in Leichhardt was like being transported to a genuine taverna in the heart of Greece or Cyprus. The service as soon as we walked through the door was exceptionally friendly. The waitress was friendly and chatty but she was the only on the floor with 5 tables to serve, all of them with 4 people or more. We ordered the set menu and at $55 each we expected to be fed well, the portions were the smallest I have eaten in any Greek restaurant and we were still a bit hungry by the end. Food was nice, not exactly hot though. Was not told it was a set menu on a Saturday night when we booked. Also, does not say it is not BYO on a Saturday. However, they were very nice and accommodating. Music was a bit loud and we just wanted to leave. Would not go there if you want to converse over dinner, unless you eat outside. The music was great though.
A family run business, the menu is designed to put you in that mode as almost all the plates are for sharing. There was live music that added a feel of coziness. The food was nice and had an authentic taste, the portions are a bit small though for the prices. I'd recommend it
We had a set menu for 2 adults and our 2 children. A busy Saturday night and yet we were still made to feel like we were having dinner at a family home. The owner took special care of our kids who loved every minute. Music was getting ready for an 8.30pm start. The food was outstanding. We are so full. It was sensational. Hats off to the whole team. Did not disappoint!
A Greek feeling from start to finish Such a welcoming place! the hospitality, prompt service, pragmatic set menus, the traditional music, the clapping, the crowds. Ah, and of course, the great traditional food was part of that experience too : The stuffed zucchini and the pita with dips were fabulous and the calamari so tender. Dessert was flaky yummy custard-filled treat with strong coffee. The white Greek wine was sweet and smooth. Booking a table for a Saturday night was easy within 24 hours and it was surprising because the place was packed with groups! Price was very reasonable as the unparalleled entertainment was ever present. Highly recommended. We'd go back any time.
Possibly the best Greek food I've ever had. A family run business with fantastic service. Very reasonably priced for the amount and quality of food you get (5-8 courses including coffee and desert 45-55$/pp). Live music on Friday and Saturday after 20:30!
