We were greeted warmly by the owner who showed us to a second smaller dining room, beautifully adorned with wine racks containing dozens of bottles of Portuguese wine. After a duo of starters consisting of Bolinhos de bacalhau (fried cod croquettes) and a type of sausage made from chicken and pork all truly excellent, my wife and I ordered the grilled bacalhau, which was served with potatoes, olives and boiled eggs, accompanied by the tomato salad (delicious fresh tomatoes with onion dressed in white wine vinegar and olive oil), while our young sons both had fish soup, which the owner puréed for them on account of their age. The bacalhau was uncomplicated and hearty, all the ingredients being fresh and unadulterated. The fish soups were really tasty too and perfect for young children. We had sparkling water and still water with lemon to share, attentively refilled on two occasions when we ran low. The owner, who apologised profusely through his son and another guest for speaking little English, took a keen personal interest that all was to our satisfaction…and it absolutely was. Over excellent coffee and desserts, some of which were served to us for free just so we had the opportunity to taste the variety on offer, the owner, his son and a fellow diner struck up a conversation about the local area and took the time to write down a number of local sites worth visiting. They were genuinely keen that we had a good time in their region a sense of local pride, I suppose, and based on this experience, well merited. All told, the meal cost just half of what we had paid a few nights before in Matosinhos and the warmth with which we were treated will stay in the memory for a long time. Highly recommend.

And the service was incredible, so friendly and helpful. If you ever arrive in the area, do not hesitate to pay them a visit: superb food, gorgeous wines, friendly stuff and good prices. Best value for the money!

They are friendly and very communicative. They also speak english so for us it was very comfortable. The food is great. We tasted more dishes in the three days we were here and hey were all tasty and fresh.
