Reviews summary
This restaurant offers a diverse menu with notable food quality, particularly praised for accommodating gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, and vegan diets. While most diners laud the exceptional service and cheerful waitstaff, some experiences highlighted long wait times and inconsistent food preparation. The atmosphere, however, received mixed reviews, with calls for improvement. Overall, the establishment is ideal for casual gatherings and brunch, but diners should be prepared for potential delays during busy periods and some menu discrepancies.

The food was tasty and fairly priced. However, two Sundays ago, there was only one person working in the kitchen, which caused delays in getting our meals, even though the restaurant was only a quarter full. View all feedback.

Manawatu offers a fantastic variety of restaurants and cafes, and we had a delightful experience at Essence in the welcoming town of Feilding. Our server was quick, and our drinks arrived promptly, allowing us to enjoy a nice chat before we placed our lunch orders. I had a delicious bacon and chicken sandwich with chips, while my wife opted for the beef burger. Remarkably, all of our meals arrived simultaneously. Despite being seated near a large group, we could converse easily without raising our voices. The interior of the restaurant was charming as well. Our waitress even went above and beyond by running after us when I accidentally left behind a gift of honey for a friend. We would be happy to return in the future. Thank you, Essence, for a wonderful lunch!

Called in for an easy meal. Got the steak eggs and chips. Huge portions and cooked to perfection. The wait staff were awesome and the chef asked if we wanted mushroom sauce with our meals. The sauce was killer tasty. Happy to highly recommend this place.
The French toast here is amazing. The staff is incredibly friendly and even offered me an extra milkshake. It’s a bit pricey, but definitely worth the indulgence!

The food is of exceptional quality, and the waitstaff and chefs are extremely knowledgeable. Most of the menu offers gluten-free options, and they are always happy to make substitutions to ensure you get your money's worth. The only downside is that they don't have a dedicated gluten-free fryer.
The food options here are of excellent quality. If you have celiac disease, just inform the staff, and they will gladly make adjustments to accommodate you. For those who are strictly gluten-free, most of the menu items are either already gluten-free or can be modified. They are also more than willing to adjust dishes for dairy-free, vegetarian, vegan, and other dietary preferences.

Lamb was slightly chewy! and serving of the complete dish was small compared to full plate of other orders. Seafood chowder not even on the menu even though it's advertised. Wait staff very cheerful and courteous. Ambience was warm and chairs comfortable. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: NZ$70–80 Food: 3 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4
**Meal Type:** Dinner **Price per Person:** NZ$100 **Food:** 4/5 **Service:** 4/5 **Atmosphere:** 2/5 I had dinner at this restaurant and overall, it was a pleasant experience. The food was excellent, earning a solid score of 4 out of 5. The service was also commendable, matching the food with another 4 out of 5 rating. However, the atmosphere left something to be desired, only reaching a score of 2 out of 5. While the meal was enjoyable, the ambiance could use some improvement to make the dining experience even better.
