Gorhams Cafe - Farmville
Gorhams Cafe
Description
Gorham's Café offers a blend of experiences, showcasing both potential and pitfalls. While some diners rave about the delicious, well-seasoned dishes and the warm, friendly service, others express disappointment, particularly regarding bland food and unpreparedness during busy periods. The café is praised for its Southern-style home cooking and fair pricing, attracting customers eager for generous portions and daily specials. Despite mixed reviews, many label it a hidden gem worth exploring, especially for its standout items like the BBQ pork sandwich and perfectly cooked meats. Overall, Gorham's Café may deliver memorable meals, but consistency remains key to elevating its reputation.

We went there for Thanksgiving day and was told the things that would be on the Buffet. BUT, after getting there and looking... over HAFT of the items weren't on it!!! Then was told they didn't have anymore plates....so, you only got one and a very small plate. $35.00 a person!!! WOW They were more worried about the takeout oders than the people in the Restaurant!!! PLEASE WE GOT THERE AT 11:15AM AND THEY DIDN'T HAVE 3 TURKEYS OR A LOT OF THE SIDE ITEMS READY!!! WE DIDN'T LEAVE UNTIL 12:30PM AND THE WAITER EVEN TOLD US SHE WAS SOOOOO SORRY FOR ONLY ONE OF THE TURKEY BEING READY!!! THEY ONLY HAD ONE PIE OUT!!! I HAVE NO REASON TO LIE!!! LIKE HE IS!!! JS
I heard from family members in the area that this is the soul food restaurant to try. My family and I showed up on a Saturday afternoon. After one group left, we were the only ones left in the restaurant. We had a very nice waitress, however it took awhile for the food to come out. I ordered the grilled ribs, mac and cheese and baked beans. The mac and cheese was cold. I sent it back. The waitress returned with another bowl of mac and cheese with a piece of hair sticking out of it. The ribs and baked beans were ok. But beware of that mac and cheese. I learned that they had a buffet on the following day. Maybe they were busy preparing. I do know regardless my money spends the same. Not sure if I'll return. Do better!!
Everything was great here! Our server was very attentive and friendly. We asked to meet the chef because we had the best pork chops ever. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
“Wooooo-weeee slap your grannma”. THIS IS THE SPOT. I have learned to find places to eat or fun places to go, search reviews. So I give back my opinion when I have had the opportunity to go to the recommended places. As we pulled up to the driveway, its an adoriable old house. I got out while my husband pulled back out to park along the roadside. While he was doing that, I approached the steps and was greeted by a gentleman that was coming from the side of the house. He was exactly that “a gentleman” so jovious, kind and treated me like an ole friend. I haven’t even made it up the steps. Off to a good start . He walked me to the door, opened it and I was greeted by yet another friendly face. I was, as normal, indecisive of what I wanted, if I want to eat in or take out. She brought me to a table near the window and indicated she would leave me with a menu and would be back. She continued on to say that if I chose to “take-out” I could go here(she actually walked a little towards where the register was, pointing my way to it , the pick up spot. I noticed they have literally a designated pick up window for convenance. We made the choice to order take-out for the reasons we were in town. We had an engagement we needed to get to and thought we would sit on the beautiful porch and wait. It has two rocking chairs and two stationary chairs. The atmosphere is so inviting, ya can’t help but want to stay. The cashier delivered us our food. We decided to eat their rather then in the car. Life is too short to not take a minute and enjoy this moment . The same gentleman that greeted me, came back out to have a chat. So nice. He is the father to the man who has recently reopened the resturant. It’s family owned and operated. Now for the Wonderful food. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich with seasoned fries and ice tea, and my husband the pork chop sandwich on white bread (choice bun or loaf bread) with coleslaw. DELICIOUS !!!!!! We ended up eating it all while sitting on the porch. The gentleman I first encountered upon arrival, came back out and spoke with us for a short time. What a pleasurable exspearance. My only frown if possible is that they do not have cocoa cola products, my husband said it’s perfect But he likes mountain dew lol truly that’s just in fun, it was PERFECT. I would love to be here on Sunday's.. he told us they have a wonderful spread and I’m sure they are fully capable accomplishing that. I hope to back again. Thank you for having such a wonderful resturant. This is a review to make sure you stop here!
This was our first time at their new location, and we were thoroughly impressed! We enjoyed the atmosphere (I love they play K-Love Radio), the esthetic, the service, and the food deserves a category of praise of its own! Everything was perfectly done and presented elegantly yet casually. It was very affordable and tasted amazing! Full of flavor and quite filling. You got some regular customers out of these locals !
