While traveling through Ireland, we deliberately sought out local eateries in charming small towns and were thrilled to discover this hidden treasure. I ordered the fish and chips, my first of many during our trip, and my wife opted for the seafood chowder. Both dishes were excellent. The staff were warm and hospitable, and we savored our meals outdoors, basking in the sunshine and admiring the breathtaking view of the North Atlantic.
O'Donohue's Pub is tucked away from the bustling tourist spots of Doolin, serving a menu of straightforward yet skillfully prepared dishes. The roomy interior offers a warm, inviting pub atmosphere loved by both families and locals. Due to Covid measures, meals such as fish and chips and fish with salad are served in cartons with disposable utensils. We enjoyed our meal paired with a pint of Guinness and water in a carafe, all reasonably priced. The charming building and breathtaking ocean sunset view make the visit truly worthwhile.
The service was a bit slow because of the busy crowd, but the food was excellent and the atmosphere was delightful. It seemed like many of the customers were regulars, which gave the place a unique and welcoming vibe.
My wife and I have been spending most weekends in Fanore for years, and visiting O'Donohue's Pub has always been a key part of our routine—often once or twice each stay. We’re frequently joined by friends, turning it into a cherished weekend ritual. In the past, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The bar staff, while not the fastest, were genuinely friendly and engaging, which more than made up for any wait. There was a true sense of belonging to something local and familiar that we always valued. Since the change in ownership, however, we’ve noticed a decline in service. It’s great that O'Donohue's is now open daily year-round, a big plus for locals and visitors alike, but the new staff’s level of engagement just isn’t the same. We’ve often found ourselves standing at the bar, clearly waiting to be served, only to be overlooked. Staff frequently have their backs turned or pass by without any acknowledgment, which is frustrating for regulars like us. It’s not about expecting special treatment, but when the same patrons return week after week, a simple greeting or friendly recognition would mean a lot. Sadly, the welcoming atmosphere we once appreciated feels diminished. We’ve spoken to other regulars who share the same feelings—it’s these small gestures that make all the difference. We still enjoy coming here and are happy to see O'Donohue's thriving in new ways, but we hope the team can reconnect with the spirit that made this place special: genuine friendliness, attentiveness, and making customers feel seen and valued. We’ll keep coming back and look forward to the warmth returning, alongside the great menu that first drew us in.
O’Donohue’s Pub offers unbelievably delicious food that exceeded all our expectations. Everyone agreed it was among the best meals we’ve ever had. Two of us ordered salmon and both claimed it was the best they’ve ever tasted. I tried a hot cabbage dish with what seemed like a reduced teriyaki sauce, accompanied by other vegetables—it was absolutely delightful. As a foodie and a skilled cook, I’m not easily impressed, but the menu at O’Donohue’s Pub truly amazed both me and my guests. Simply wow!
