Reviews summary
Great Western offers a warm, inviting atmosphere with friendly, attentive staff and generous portions, making it a popular spot for families and locals alike. The menu features standout items like fried chicken, ribeye steak, and fresh-baked specialty French toast. Daily specials and convenient parking add to the appeal. However, some guests have noted inconsistent food quality and slow service during busy times, along with occasional difficulties with reservations. Despite these issues, many praise the welcoming environment and enjoyable meals, making Great Western a promising destination for casual dining and hearty breakfasts in the area.
Was Bob Kato at Rainbow Oaks a mag?
I felt like I was more in the Southern US than in Southern California. Friendly people, great breakfast, no hurry. And great iced tea. I only stopped here one time but had one of the best machaca (I know, not Southern cooking) plate I've had. I'll be back. View all feedback.
What M dislikes about Rainbow Oaks:
We stopped by for lunch while traveling. My burger was overcooked and charred, which was disappointing as it turned out to be one of the worst I've had. However, the potatoes were excellent. My husband ordered a scrambled egg dish, and it was good and quite filling. View all feedback.

The food quality was good but the food quantity was HUGE. You get way more than your monies worth. The service was outstanding and the atmosphere was congruent to the surroundings.
Great place to stop. Wasn't busy. Food was great. Prices were good, portions were generous, service was great.

I had an amazing experience at this restaurant! The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. I highly recommend it!
Unfortunately, it took our waitress almost 10 minutes to greet us, and we quickly placed our simple order: one lumberjack meal and a side of home fries for my husband and child to share. Each time we requested something, it seemed to be a hassle for her to bring us basic items like napkins and hot sauce. After waiting for about 35 minutes, our waitress brought out a couple of plates and assured us that our food would be out shortly. Ultimately, we waited a total of 50 minutes before we decided to bring the issue to the management’s attention, as my husband needed to get to work. We offered to pay for the orange juice we had consumed, expecting a sincere apology and perhaps a gesture of goodwill for the inconvenience. Instead, they charged us in full and even suggested that we might have already eaten our food, despite the plates still being on the table. My husband has experience in restaurant ownership and management, and he was appalled by the way things were handled. This review is not meant to be malicious, but rather an opportunity for the establishment to reflect and improve, ensuring that they create better experiences for their guests than the one we had.

The food here is absolutely amazing! The chicken-fried steak with eggs and the eggs Benedict are out of this world! The service is excellent, and it’s a great place for families with kids. Plus, they have outdoor seating available!
Charming! It has a nostalgic atmosphere that can feel a bit eerie at night. It's definitely an authentic roadside diner that’s perfect for late-night visits. However, the service is incredibly friendly, and the staff there seem genuinely warm and welcoming...

I had an excellent experience at Great Western. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the staff was incredibly friendly. My waiter was one of the best I've encountered all year—attentive and respectful. The food was delicious, and they offered daily specials. We tried the fried chicken, and it was outstanding. Additionally, there’s plenty of parking available, making it a convenient choice for families. The bar area also looked quite impressive. Overall, a great spot!
The service was fantastic. Most of the dishes are generous in size and can be easily shared. We will definitely return in the future!
I mean serious viewing this medium rare steak is my first time here and I loved it the prices are as good as the food. Staff was very friendly atmosphere I recommend this place to everyone!! Great portions!
For family or cozy couple dining, indoor or on the patio, this stop off I-15 serves up great food drinks, including a full bar, at great prices for everyone, and are helpful with substitutions for food allergies. Their specials vary, are posted on a board when you walk in, so on various visits I've had several yummy meals, including brisket or rack of ribs. Great job Rainbow Oaks! We return as often as we can!
What a fantastic hidden gem for dining! I stumbled upon this place while driving in San Diego and was happily surprised. I ordered the 'Tuesday Night Special Dinner', which featured roasted chicken, served with potatoes smothered in gravy and fresh vegetables. The chicken was juicy and crispy, bursting with flavor! The mashed potatoes were thick and delicious, perfectly complemented by the gravy. The vegetables, though simple in appearance, were incredibly tasty. Be ready for generous portion sizes! And I can't forget to mention the caramel cake—absolutely scrumptious! It has layers of cake, caramel, cream, and nuts; so moist and just the right level of sweetness. The service was impeccable—very friendly and knowledgeable staff. I will definitely return and will be sure to recommend this spot to my friends!
