What Fern Mason dislikes about The Canalside:
Staff were lovely and welcoming. Beautiful place to have a meal/drinks. Food was okay. Calamari was rubbery and a very small portion for the price. It was served with deep fried veg which was odd and wasn't pleasant. Chips weren't crispy and tasted like oil. Burger was very pink in the middle. We weren't asked if we were okay with that. It wasnt very flavoursome, had to add bbq Sause. The roll wasn't toasted so went... View all feedback.
We tried the new menu at this restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We visited on a Sunday and were pleased to find they now offer a carvery, which my husband loved. I had the steak pie, while one friend had a burger and the other had scampi. We all enjoyed our meals, and found the service and atmosphere to be excellent. Overall, we recommend giving this restaurant a try - it's pretty good.
We had a fantastic evening tonight celebrating my husband's birthday. The food was excellent! There were five of us, including our dog. The restaurant is beautiful, and the food and drinks were top-notch. A special mention to the young waitress and waiter who were very friendly and provided excellent service. Thank you for a wonderful night.
We made a reservation for three for a festive lunch and were promptly seated. Our order was taken quickly and the food arrived at our table well presented, piping hot, and delicious. We highly recommend the fabulous food and affordable prices at this restaurant.
So yesterday I went for lunch at the canalside and it has seriously went downhill. I posted a wee comment on their page without going into detail all I said was I was disappointed, as I don't believe in totally slating a business on fb. However they have now deleted my post and blocked me from their page so I am taking it upon myself to leave an honest review. 21 pounds for 2 course isn't the cheapest so I expected something at least edible. I can't fault the waiting staff as they did their job and the food was served promptly as we explained we were in a bit of a rush. I ordered the tomatoe and roast pepper soup for starter and the festive burger for main. Bearing in mind this was 21 quid.... The soup was basically as though they'd opened a tin of tomatoes and heat it up. Nothing more, nothing less. I'd have put up with that as a starter if the burger that came next was actually so bad that we were sniffing it before every bite as there was strange whiff to the meat which us panicking it was off, which we really shouldn't be having to do. We ended up leaving it . The only part which was actually good was the pigs in blankets on top. The point of my post is why can't I post an honest criticism about food which I paid good money for without getting blocked. All I said on the page that they have went down hill. Any decent business would have wanted to know what the issue was in the hope to resolve it for future potential customers. Make your own mind up but I won't be back .
Booked a table for dinner in the restaurant but when we arrived at the bar for a pre dinner drink we were informed the restaurant was closed Monday to Friday and meals were to be eaten in the bar. We have done this before and it hasn’t been a problem, however we have been avoiding the restaurant for some time as we like to have a pre dinner drink in the bar, but the bar experience has gradually deteriorated. There have always been big television screens, which although I don’t like them I have tolerated as the sound was either off or very low. But our last couple of visits have been spoiled with a very loud television dominating the room showing game shows. I don’t watch these at home so I object to being subjected to them on an evening out. I don’t know for whose benefit these are on but it complete spoils any atmosphere. The lights are far too bright and the drinks are definitely overpriced for where the bar is situated, I’d say even pricey for Glasgow and Edinburgh which we visit regularly. We have been regulars for years and usually enjoy our meal, on this occasion we left for somewhere we could enjoy our meal without the awful atmosphere. Was going to rate it a 2 but since we have had many nice meals in the past settled on a 3.
