Description

Milkcraft serves inventive, creamy ice cream with standout flavors and freshly baked bubble waffle cones. Portions are generous but prices skew high, and seating is minimal. Expect made-to-order craftsmanship and often long lines. The atmosphere varies from theatrical and cheerful to slow or rude service, with occasional loud, explicit music. Overall a must-visit for adventurous dessert lovers, but not ideal for those seeking quick service or a quiet outing.

If social media didn’t exist, I doubt Milkcraft would either. This place seems entirely crafted for Instagram-worthy photos and TikTok videos. Almost every ice cream option is incredibly photogenic, especially if you're willing to spend a little extra on one of the bubble waffle cones. My mom and I visited this charming spot after lunch on a warm Friday afternoon in March. I hadn’t been to downtown Fairfield since the mid-90s, so I had no recollection of it, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover a vibrant, upscale college town. It’s no accident that Milkcraft is located just a few blocks from a college campus and is surrounded by trendy restaurants and shops, including a fascinating noodle bar right next door. This place is ideal for young adults and their parents looking to indulge while in the area. We timed our visit perfectly, as the shop was empty when we arrived, but by the time we received our ice creams, a line of three or four people had formed. I ordered a scoop of the Milk & Cereal ($5.95), featuring Fruity Pebbles as the cereal. It was quite delicious, though on the heavier side, which is to be expected. The process of making the ice cream is fascinating—they use liquid nitrogen to freeze it, creating a visually appealing effect (perfect for social media) and a smoother texture. Very cool! My mom opted for a red velvet flavor and declared it magnificent. Since she lives nearby, I'm sure she'll be back soon. One drawback is that due to the extensive freezing process, it takes a bit longer to receive your ice cream. If there’s a decent line ahead of you, you might have to wait a while to start enjoying your treat. The seating area is a definite plus, especially on a nice day. There’s a fire pit with Adirondack chairs, alongside other unique and trendy seating options.

This ice cream shop is always bustling with activity, offering a selection of unique mashups alongside some classic flavors. They feature bubble cones, which are freshly made Belgian waffle-style cones available in various flavors. However, keep in mind that if you order multiple scoops, they must all be of the same flavor, so plan accordingly. Additionally, the bubble cones can cause your ice cream to melt a bit, leading to potential messiness. Overall, the ice cream is really delicious!

This was my first visit, and I have to give it 5 stars for the incredible flavors and generous portions of their ice cream creations. I especially loved the bubble waffle! However, I have to knock off 2 stars due to the slow service. It took a while to get acknowledged and to place my order. I understand that the handcrafted cones are made to order and that this process takes time, but I think they could improve on the initial acknowledgment and ordering process. It seemed like they only took orders once the previous customer's order was complete, which I found a bit frustrating, especially on a chilly, rainy day. The space is small, and there’s a counter with seating for about 4 people. I’d love to come back when the weather is nicer. The flavors, though, are fantastic! We tried four different ones: PB&J, Salted Caramel, Vietnamese Coffee, and Vanilla. So delicious!

Charming, new ice cream spot in Fairfield. Each serving is made fresh to order, so you need to choose a single flavor for all your scoops. I tried the blue cookie butter, which was quite sweet. Prices are a bit high. The most popular flavors seem to be blue cookie butter and s’mores. Edit: I don’t think I’ll return. Not sure what kind of milk or cream they use, but it upset my stomach.

What an experience! Ice cream with a performance aspect makes watching the process really captivating. We tried the S'mores Campfire served in a waffle cone, and it was delicious. It’s on the pricey side but definitely worth a try if you haven’t been yet.
