Description

The City Gate restaurant offers a varied experience, showcasing both its strengths and weaknesses. Diners appreciate the warm atmosphere and friendly service, highlighting enjoyable meals such as the shared platters and well-executed Sunday roasts. However, several guests have expressed frustrations with slow service, particularly during busy events like Christmas parties. Reservations can be hit-or-miss, with some experiencing last-minute cancellations. Nonetheless, many found value in the food quality and reasonable pricing, alongside a good selection of drinks. Overall, while challenges exist, the restaurant still has its devoted clientele, drawn back by its charm and culinary offerings.

We’ve had a lovely stay at the hotel, the staff was very friendly and made us feel welcome. The room was lovely, stylish but still cosy. Would’ve wanted to stay longer if we hadn’t have booked return tickets already! Breakfast was delicious as well. All in all one of the loveliest places/accommodations/ we’ve been to yet. Could recommend to anyone!

Had a great meal of Rump Steak with chips and a peppercorn sauce. Staff were very helpful and accommodating without being too in your face. Drinks were at the pricier end £9 for a 250ml glass of Chilean Sauvignon Blanc. But I didn't mind that given the food and the ambience.

Lovely place but you will need to use local public car parks. Warm and friendly atmosphere, brilliant rooms. Very quiet for location. Little treats like port and brownies on arrival are so thoughtful. Very nice food from the restaurant below. Great for exploring the local town/high street.

Youngs Brewery Pub, with a fantastic Bistro attached. Had Chicken Liver Paté to start, which was excellent, followed by a gourmet sausage Toad in the Hole for main. The main was the star of the show, and was not only delicious, but was a really generous portion for the price and quality: just what was needed on a rainy autumn day.
