Grilled chicken, choose your size. Rice? Fries? Salad? Was a large serving size( the small) very helpful waiter spoke English for me because I don't speak Spanish, nice guy.
We had an excellent eating in the restaurant gruta. it was a very popular place, a no wonder – there were many people who come, as well as for takeaways apparently ordered by phone. we had a good salate, a very large plate grilled huh. covered by a huge hill of french fries, a liter excellent red wine from estremoz and a coffee. unbelievable, the whole meal came to euros. service was excellent. the person who speaks excellent English. note that they cannot reserve a table.
A gruta is a simple, traditional, Portuguese restaurant, usually filled with locals. I have some experiences with local restaurants (I am portugiesen, and count) and I can assure that this restaurant is one where they have one of the best and genuine experiences of alentejo cuisine. Alentejo recipe is simple: traditionally a poor region, they mastered the mix of cheap and simple ingredients (brot, water, oreganos, garlic oil, asparagus and pork) to produce some of the most delicious and simple recipes of the world. the lombinhos de porco com migas de espargos (pork sirloin with spargel migas may have been one of my best meals ever in traditional alentejo restaurants. the pig was soft, well spiced and cooked for perfection, and the sparing migas were one of the best I ever tried. I have made the mortal sin to taste bolo de mel e noz (cake of honey and nuts) that was the ultimate perfection. I landed on this special restaurant after a recommendation of the hotel I was staying. I can assure them it was one of the best recommendations of all time. at least if she alentejo kitchen as much as I.
Our waiter was right, an order of the grilled chicken was more than enough for both of us. The print wine was a nice compliment that made a good dinner in the first night for a short stay.
