We made reservations for 7:30 where we were shown to our table and given a complimentary iced tonic water and lemon. Started with an Alheira ball and lamb croquette pastry. Lamb beat out the Alheira but both were tasty. My partner ordered the mushroom and chestnut risotto which was delicious and rich. I ordered the pork cheeks with chips which reminded me of an excellent goulash. As good as anything one could imagine dining on in a fine Budapest restaurant. So tender the meat fell from my fork. Service was incredibly attentive and friendly. Our waiter even advised us when we’d ordered one too many dishes. Their reputation is well deserved. You won’t be sorry.
Staying at the Vitoria Stone hotel in the fascinating Unesco-heritage town of Evora, we were so lucky to dine at the 5 Amendoas. From the moment we arrived (which was a bit late), we were greeted by Andres, the effusive and knowledgeable Maitre D', who assisted in wine choices and shared with us the concepts behind the menu: authentic regional products brought to plate with innovative presentions and a real culiarny flair. Erlindo, our friendly waiter, helped us identify Portuguese terms and products. From the welcoming non-alcohol citron cocktail, to a most succulent braised pork starter, followed by a scrumptious chestnut and mushroomm risotto, this was one of our favorite meals in Portugal. If I lived in Evora, I would make it a regular dining experience...but as a visitor, it would lure me back to Evora, the Vitoria Stone hotel (which is lovely) and the 5 Amendoas.
