Was Gillian Tavares at Warbrook House a mag?
My husband and I have stayed here a few times and now feel quite at home. We much prefer the rooms in the Mansion house itself to the Grange, which is just down the road. Certainly it's worth paying a bit extra for a garden room with a view of the lake. The staff are lovely. We like this historic building and particularly the secret door in the library. There is a new chef in the Clove Canal Restaurant who produced o... View all feedback.

What Globe Trotter dislikes about Warbrook House:
I am perplexed by the four-star rating given to this hotel. While the location is indeed picturesque, nestled in the countryside of Reading, the overall experience did not meet my expectations. The check-in process was straightforward, and we reserved two rooms, which were quite basic, akin to those found in a standard bed and breakfast. The rooms featured old cupboards, and one of the bathrooms was lacking toilet ti... View all feedback.

Where do I start? There is a couple of good things regarding the venue, however there is a lot of bad things about it, and it is a shame because the wedding venue was decent. It was my brother’s wedding in July, and prior to that my Dad was paying on our behalf. My Dad wanted to meet the planner who owns the marquee etc. however they never got to meet, once Dad paid for venue, Irfan who was in charge was avoiding him for months, wouldn’t ring or text him back. My Dad paid a lot of money but wanted to meet him personally, so he can ask questions and go over things. Furthermore, Dad didn’t get to meet him, and this was frustrating for him as he paid a lot of money. Now if you’re paying a lot of money, you would want to ask questions and go over things, but in this case, we never met the guy, as he was avoiding us. There was an event the day before, and we had to set up early morning for the wedding, however there was still a mess inside and outside the marquee, which was embarrassing. Glasses on outside tables, rubbish all over the floor inside and outside, I literally had to tell the staff to clear this quickly as we were preparing for our first event there and were short on time. Now over to the hotel, staff were very helpful like Richard and the Indian woman, however everything else was just shambles! First, we had a lot of rooms as guests came from India, America and far locations within the UK. As people were arriving and checking in, there was no one to take the bags for them, as everyone had a lot of things, and was like a maze finding the rooms it was disappointing that there was no one helping to take the bags, as there was no lift, this was upsetting as elder people had to carry their belongings to the rooms upstairs. I personally thought the rooms were an absolute joke, considering how much was paid for them! The size itself was awful, and I wouldn’t spend a penny on a room there, was like sleeping in a low budget hotel. On the second and final day, the showers weren’t even coming out hot water, was coming out cold. Now the reason why I didn’t tell any hotel staff is because I knew it would take them ages to get it sorted, as other stuff we wanted would have taken a ridiculous amount of time. There was one example, one of my cousins went to the reception because they didn’t have towels in their room and so they had to wait an hour to receive this in their room, one hour just go get a couple of towels! Ridiculous and embarrassing. Dodgy locks on some of the rooms, as some struggled to lock them, can’t even get simple locks, common sense really. Please, do not waste your time and money there, the venue itself, awful, terrible communication, rubbish hotel rooms and some useless staff.

The service is very poor you book one price and when you get to the location to pay they try to charge you more without the breakfast. The hotel is very dated/old. There's several building far away from the main hotel so all our guest isnt together. The room are very small and smell of urine and mould. I stayed 2 nights and slept in car both nights because I couldnt breathe in the room. When the receptionist was informed about the room she just said she will let them know. The radiator wasnt working. The building onsite for wedding reception is the only good thing its BEAUTIFUL but of course the event planner elevated the space. There's cows and deers roaming around. Theres lots of greeny, its quiet, and theres some scenic areas. I would never stay here again or recommend. Breakfast is simple eggs pork sausage fruits mushroom and beans.

Stayed for 1 night for my niece's wedding over a month ago. Ceremony went well, and also the reception was a success. Evening disco and everything included was great. Was disappointed with the room we got for the price we paid for. The room was not in a good location going up 2 sets of stairs, through narrow corridors. The bathroom did not have enough towels for 2 people, the tea, coffee and biscuits in the room were past their use by date. The lights in the bedroom were too dim to use for make up , had to use bathroom mirror instead. The TV signal on most of the channels was very poor, including ITV, C4 and C5. The breakfast in the morning was fine with buffet cooked breakfast, cereals , fruits , yogurts and toast. Not recommended, Would not like to stay there again. Nearby activities: No nearby activities. Food drinks: Not enough open for buying lunch. No shops nearby.

It's a real shame to see how the hotel owners have taken most of the character of the house with modern decorations and features. The furniture does not go with this house. We stayed in the best room of the house but soon asked to be moved room because they had put next door to us a horrible drunk/dumb couple that started fighting and swearing as soon as they got in their room. The rooms have these small original connecting doors that you can almost see through and hear everything on the other side. The receptionist offered us another room much smaller that stunk of smoke. They didn't offer us any part refund. What is happening with these type of hotel owners is that they have sold the soul and character of old buildings like this for the sake of profit. They welcome absolutely everyone with last minute offers from online hotel sites and by the end of the day the car parks are full of trade vans and drunk people that have nowhere else to go. I have nothing against trade people, I just don't like bad manners and luck of respect. This is an events hotel, they advertise it like that, weddings etc. The place is knackered. The owners don't reinvest any money in new floors, carpets or more classy decorations. It really needs an upgrade, it feels dirty and sticky. The house is still an impressive mansion, we walked along the pond at night, it was 0c outside and the garden was misty. The reflection of the house on the pond with the garden lighting on from the far end of the pond was absolutely incredible, breathtaking. It really makes you feel sorry for the house and what they have done with it. Service: 2

It was our 10th anniversary and I booked a table at the clove restaurant. It was a surprise for my husband and the team at clove have set up the table for us as requested when booked the table. Food was amazing and the staff were friendly. The head chef has personally came to meet us and was checking on us. Felt really special. This was our first visit and was not sure how our experience would be. But had an undoubtedly amazing experience and will come back very often. Thank you to the team at Warbrook. You have made our evening special and very welcome Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5 Hotel highlights: Luxury, Great view, Romantic, Kid-friendly, Great value
