Was User at The Pie Commission a mag?
Had always wanted to try a pie at The Pie Commission. I was not disappointed. Amazing crust! Purchased a braised beef rib pie - which I ate that afternoon. Also picked up a frozen vegetarian and Beef'n beer pie. Those were baked the following day for my children. My son reported "the best meat pie he's ever had" My daughter loved the vegetarian pie, again particularly the crust. You get what you pay for. View all feedback.
What User dislikes about The Pie Commission:
I ordered pies to go and when I got home unfortunately the pie I ordered was quite dry. My BF says it was because I ordered late in the day (around 5pm). I ordered something with a curry filling. Crust was ok. Maybe I should have eaten-in or gone right when it opened. View all feedback.
This small restaurant is a great spot for picking up delicious pies to go. The crust on the pies is fantastic, with the beef and beer pie being my favorite. You can also purchase frozen, uncooked pies to bake at home later. All of the pies are made fresh on site.
The pies at this restaurant may be small and a bit expensive, but they are absolutely delicious! I have never tried a pie from here that I did not like. This is definitely my top choice for meat pies in the city.
Why are there not more places like the Pie Commission around Toronto!!<br/ <br/ The Pie Commission is a small hole in the wall that is making flaky meat pies out the side door like it's illegal. The pies they are baking are individual sized pies that are the perfect lunch. If you don't know what it's like, imagine various flavors of chicken pot pie. Though the place is tiny inside, they have lounge chairs and picnic tables outside. Most of their pies are roughly around $7-8 and you can make it a meal by adding a side of slaw or fries for $9.98 total. <br/ <br/ They have several staple pies like Beef N Beer, Curry Chicken, and Braised Beef, but they also have specialty pies based on the season. I was actually hoping for shrimp and lobster pie, but they didn't have any, so I opted for another special, the Steak N Cheese. <br/ <br/ The Steak and Cheese pie wasn't steak, but was still good. It is actually beef brisket with mozzarella cheese, gravy, and onions. The brisket meat was tender and juicy, while cheese and onions help to complement the flavor. But honestly guys, the best part of the meal was surprisingly that flaky f in crust. That crust was so done so damn well with the flakiness and buttery flavor holding everything in. You could pretty much argue that the crust was better than the fillings. Hard to say that for most of these meals. <br/ <br/ The place is literally a hole in the wall. You'll find a door attached to the side wall of a salon by the Queensway. The service was real friendly and the people whip up their pies rather quickly and have them heated and ready for us folks. Definitely a must try for anyone who loves flaky savory goodness.
Probably the best steak cheese pie I've ever had. I ordered it as a combo and had the fries. Fries were fresh cut style and pretty good. I tried the coleslaw I wouldn't order that again. The pie I selected was from the seasonal menu. The establishment is a to go style restaurant with outdoor seating. Even though my pie had a small piece of tin foil on the inside, I will definitely be back.
I had the braised beef rib with a side of coleslaw and my wife had the smokey steak and cheese with a side of fries. The pies were savoury and delicious. Warm and fulfilling. The cole slaw was a little lacklustre but the fries made up for it. In general, I'd say blood good pies!
