Contribute Feedback What Antoine Thibault likes about AU Boeuf Rouge:
A wonderful find in this beautiful little village The food was a joy, beautifully cooked and presented. Very helpful professional staff who explained the menu to us. Fortunately, one of our groups spoke a little French and was able to turn around with our waiter. Our decisions... wouldn't have been better. Two of us chose lobsters with different types of fresh mushrooms with a special sauce that was mouthwater. Anoth... View all feedback.
What Astrid Gaudin doesn't like about AU Boeuf Rouge:
This is a local restaurant where we went on Sunday night. It was recommended by our hosts. The restaurant was full of locals, the food and the wines were good and at reasonable prices. The parts were huge. Unfortunately, the service was bad from the beginning because the server understood that we were foreigners, although I am French, but my partner is Swiss German. Not recommended for foreigners. View all feedback.
The food was good and the service was very nice with our kids, Thus even if we missed at the end the glass of beer normally offered with the touristic menu we very happy and had a funny evening...and now if we are again in the region we have a good reason to go back and taste some other typical plates....as we know now the place...entering in the place through the bar you will not expect that on first floor they have so much tables.
The staff is very attentive, and are glad to make a custom dish if you want a vegetarian option that is not on the menu. Wines are good, and ambience is like being in a family home. Prices are reasonable, and a great alternative from the nearby hotel restaurant.
Rien a dire. We were 8 people and we got a private room like a typical alsacian house. My piece of beef was perfectly cooked , well grilled on the top and raw inside. I could choose vegetables and french fries with. The waiter was lovely and he always smiled. Just a great moment.
Don't be put off by the appearance when you walk in and find 3 old men looking up at you from their silent drinks (I was told by a local "they're always there") because you'll be taken through the bar and up the stairs to the dining area. Up here the atmosphere is better. The food is roundly good and well priced but it must be said that service is really slow - we were a large group and there were a few other larger groups in there too but from point of ordering was 2.5 hours and most of it was spent waiting.Good food but you have to be pushy with the service or they'll leave you sitting.
We ventured out to try a local restaurant in Ensisheim and Au Boef is the only one close to a recommendation in town other than the Moulin Hotel restaurant - expensive. It was an interesting experience and the food was very good. They actually had an English menu, wow. They began with a nice little salad and the selection was varied enough to please almost everyone except my vegetarian wife. I guess the Boef should have been the giveaway! She did end up with a nice salad and I enjoyed a really nice Spagetti Bolognese.
