Dinner Bell - Elyria
Dinner Bell
Description
At this locally owned, casual car-hop spot, hearty sandwiches (meatball, BBQ pork), burgers, chili dogs, curly fries and standout frozen desserts (turtle sundaes, flurries, chocolate-banana, orange sherbet) earn praise at reasonable prices. Staff are often described as warm and attentive, though several diners report slow or inconsistent service and long waits despite ample staffing. Outdoor picnic tables and car-hop service add convenience. Loyal customers hope management fixes service lapses to match the reliably tasty food.

I used to be a regular customer last year, but both of my visits this year were disappointing. Despite having twice as many staff members, the service was surprisingly poor. On my first visit, the pace was slow, and the quality of the food had declined compared to before. During both visits, the restaurant wasn't even busy during peak hours. Today, I waited for what felt like forever for someone to take my order, while several cars that arrived after me were served first. All I got was a glimpse of a server who, while passing by, only acknowledged me by looking my way as she attended to others. Feeling ignored, I decided to leave. It's clear they don't seem to value my business anymore. I hope someone from the restaurant sees this and works on addressing these issues before they lose more loyal customers like me.
I ordered the meatball sandwich, roasted cauliflower, and coleslaw, and everything was absolutely delicious. I also tried the turtle sundae, which was fantastic with just the right amount of toppings; unlike at many places, it didn't turn into just ice cream after a few bites. The prices were quite reasonable as well.
I visited for the first time today, and it was fantastic! I have to say, the BBQ pork sandwich was delicious, and the flurry was outstanding. It was so good that I ordered a second serving of the cookie dough. It might even be better than Dairy Queen! The staff here are truly wonderful as well!
