This place might suit you if you are vegetarian, but there are no vegan options unless the vegetarian ones are modified. Not the best. Too simple. Had a salad, pasta with red sauce and fruit for dessert...
There is nothing vegan per se, some things they will adapt, but that's not so easy...
I have visited the restaurant at least 7 times in my staying in Elche. Mestizaje gives you an outstanding food and taste journey promoting Mediterranean health cuisine and Spanish recipe. Definitely recommended from me to anyone visit the city. You know sometimes you don't need a Michelin star to be a good restaurant as the Chef and the menu of Mestizaje is above any Michelin star.
Very tasty unusual exciting meal, both a la carte and day menus. We went with 3 teenagers whose curiosity were satisfied. Very popular, I suggest you book.
My partner (who is from Elche) and I were looking for an evening meal in the city centre last night and were tempted into Mestizaje by the menu and decor/ ambience from outside and we couldn’t possibly have chosen better. We have eaten together at a number of restaurants in and around Elche together over the past few years, and as you can imagine she has eaten at many more before that. We are both confident in saying what we just enjoyed was one of the best meals available not just in Elche but, frankly, one of the best either of us has ever had. Before talking about the food, a word for our waitress Yaiza who was really friendly and helpful, even forgiving us for coming up the wrong stairs, and giving some really helpful recommendations on individual dishes and portion sizes. The food see below was wonderful but she made it extra special. With Yaiza’s help we ordered the red cabbage salmorejo, two different croquetas (jamón and prawns), tortilla/ Spanish omelette topped with cheese and truffle, jamón ibérico ribs, and for dessert a torrija (essentially a variety of French toast) and a mille feuille enthusiastically and entirely correctly recommended by Yaiza. Every course was between very good to utterly brilliant the tortilla and salmorejo probably being the standouts, along with the mille feuille which came with a wide variety of accompaniments including a wonderful mandarin sorbet. For 70 euros total (with drinks) you could easily pay a similar amount or even more for something far inferior. All in all, a wonderful experience and we are already making plans to return having already recommended it to all my partner’s family. If you get a chance to try this restaurant, don’t hesitate. Quite simply it is truly outstanding.
