The Great American in Airway is never a let down. We’ve been here a few times and the service is always amazing. The establishment itself is also really nice. It feels like fine dining. Food is always great and the drinks I’ve tried have been pretty good. The price isn’t bad at all either! Overall a 10/10! View all feedback.
What Phil Sims doesn't like about Great American Steakhouse:
Beer was cold, TVs were nice...but the steak I was served would even make New Yorkers laugh. Guys they passed this off as a Serlion (see picture)! I do hope the other steaks they serve are actual steaks, but buyer beware if you want a Serlion...this is not the place! I literally paid $20 for a uncut beef fajita and mashed potatoes. Hadn't been to this one yet, it's pretty nice. Has a fancy feel but still down to earth, like a wedding that allows jeans and boots. Steak was really good, so was the bread. They very conveniently have stands at each table to hang your jacket, hat or purse. Yall will like it.Parking: It's a little tight since it shares parking with other businesses. If you got a full size truck, think thin when parking.
Sat and Ordered at the bar. Martini was good as was the beer. The service was not so much. After finishing the first drink took a while to acknowledge whether we needed another drink. The banter from the staff back and fourth was condescending and I didn’t appreciate it. The nachos tasted as if the oil was old (rancid) and ribs were tough. We let the bartender know and shortly after saw a cook come out and talk to the bartender who motioned with his head in my direction. Said nothing and left. Wasn’t looking for anything in return just not to have anybody else experience that. That being said I would not recommend this location nor will I return.
We when during the lunch special and it was the worst burgers we have ever had. The bread was dry and hard, the bacon was to tick and made it hard to bite, and the patty was unseason and not medium how we ordered it. On the lunch special menu it states that you can mix and mach but when we ordered they told us we couldn't. Service was okay but kinda felt weird like they have never seen military personal before. Was not a good 1st impression and definitely the worst steak house in el paso so far.
We were greeted and seatly quickly, but we were taken to the back room and placed in the corner(not busy at all and plenty of seating) in a booth with chairs on one side. Booth was too low and smelled as if cleaned with a bar towel from the night before. OK try and deal with it. Ordered our food and appetizer(which I pointed to on the menu) we 'll have the shrimp cocktail . By the time our drinks arrived we decided to ask to move to another table because it was too uncomfortable. Our food arrived and I asked where 's our shrimp cocktail? (You know appetizers are supposed to come before your meal) and was told it would be a few more minutes because something wasn 't thawed out yet. Our shrimp cocktail finally arrived and it was shrimp with dipping sauce, not the so called Mexican style in the menu that I pointed to when ordering. We decided just to keep it instead of making a scene. After we were done we ask for a box, which would indicate we were FINISHED, it took longer than normal to bring the box. So waiting get the check and waiting, the waiter shows up with fake samples of dessert, which we declined, another indication we were done and continued to wait for the bill. I saw a pasing waitress and told her we would like our bill and without saying a word she looks around and just points to the waiter who just walked in room to attend to his larger group. I walk up to the front desk and tell them I 'm tired of waiting for my bill, they said they would do something about it but I never saw them try and locate our waiter, by this time I finally told him we 'd like the bill and we had waited way to long for it, his response, did you ask for it? . What kind of unprofessional response is that? I said when someone asked for a to go box it should say we are done especially if we also turned down dessert. We spent more time waiting to overpay than to order and eat our mediocre dinner. Judging by some other reviews wait staff seems to give more attention to their larger groups and I believe that. Seated quickly when we arrived but took about 15 minutes to get assisted at our table. Ordered drinks and our waitress disappeared for another 15. Ordered appetizers and food, appetizers took 20 minutes and food took another 30. Lots of waiters/waitresses and they were too busy talking to each other rather than taking care of their customers. Will never come here again. To top it off I ordered my steak well done and it was still very red when I got. I didn't complain at all just simply paid and left.
