Ripe Eatery - El Cajon

We had not been to dine at Ripe in years since we moved from El Paso in early 2020. What a disappointment when we returned to visit stopped by for brunch. 1st, service was extremely slow. 2/ Complimentary “biscuits” — which came along with our entrees/ were cold, tiny and tasteless and took even longer than our drinks (iced teas and just water which also took extremely long! . My daughter also ordereda matcha latte which was served cold and was obviously just tea with cold oat milk thrown in… simply tasteless. 3/ The brunch entrees were just as bad…COLD roasted potatoes and eggs with ZERO seasoning (not even salt and so called “green chile chilaquiles” with no green chile??!! We suppose the unseasoned yellow peppers were their ideas of “green chile.” Overall, an almost $50 brunch was terrible and disappointing. (And no, we didn’t send our food back, because clearly, these young, untrained young ladies were frazzled already. The responsibility lies entirely with mgt ownership . Bottom line, unless this was a one off, especially after a great experience from a few years back, we DO NOT RECOMMEND it and will not be back.

30 july 7:15 hrs. when I came in the front was completely deserted. So I sat down at 1 of the orange chairs by the hostess stand and waited ....and waited..... and waited. After 9 minutes I left. Very sad. Your service was previously exceptional. I used to eat here 4 or 5 times a week. Robert Mason El paso, TX

Awesome place to eat good food and enjoyable atmosphere

The Ripe Eatery is a very clean restaurant. We loved their varied many options and they served Coke products. They are very accommodating and provide good service. They have fun food ideas that taste amazing. Grass fed beef burgers and lots of organic options. We enjoy coming to eat here. It's hard to decide what to choose off the menu.

We've been to this place many times to include the celebration of several important events! So I happily chose this place again in hopes of having a pleasant experience once more! However, It seems like fate had a different experience waiting for us on June 1st. We arrived about mid-morning, and my bride arranged with the hostess to sit outside. Shortly after the hostess left, our drink orders were taken and delivered by two different people, and each said someone else would be by to take our food orders. Melissa arrived a few minutes later. I ordered my wife's food (she asked me to) and I made my selection and specified 2 things, I requested the eggs in the same fashion I have for the last 50 years (and she felt it necessary to educate me on the matter). I was also very specific on how I wanted them (without hollandaise sauce). When my food arrived, I was happy to see my wife's order was correct and disappointed that mine was not. Yes, it had the sauce I had precislely asked NOT to have... To be honest, I was dealing with a personal issue (death anniversary of a loved one), and the earlier condescending treatment from Melissa was enough to prompt me to escalate the matter in a manner that would have been less than ideal. I chose to cool off, muscle through the meal mostly to avoid ruining the experience for my wife. Once we were done, I asked for the bill and attempted to hand her my credit card, to which she reacted as if my hand was soiled with feces... I assure you it was not! I kept my cool and paid the bill, left an undeserving 20% tip (because I'm fully aware of the typical compensation structure that exists in the service industry and inflation is horrible these days), and made sure to fill out the requested evaluation that came with the bill (which was either prefilled or started by someone else). I was sincere and accurate on the details, left my email address, and my full name. It is disappointing to see the management or the person who was supposed to read those evaluations did not contact me! It has been 9 days! Yes, I checked my junk folder, too... I'm open to the possibility that perhaps Melissa read it and chose not to deliver it... Regardless of what actually happened, I've chosen this venue to make my remarks about the experience. So, if you're ever at this establishment and you happen to have a similar experience, let them know (have the manager come over to your table). It takes years to create a brand and seconds to destroy it by uncaring staff (or perhaps are carrying out a hidden agenda).
