I’ve had the red Thai curry on the last three... read more I’ve used Bar 163 a lot over the years. More recently I’ve been coming solo and before a trip to Everyman cinema. I’ve had the red Thai curry on the last three occasions I’ve been there and it used to be lovely. But something went wrong last night. We were a group of four and intended to have starters, mains, a drink and then off to the cinema. My warm goats cheese salad to start was really nice. I didn’t even look at the mains because I knew the Thai red curry was what I wanted. When it arrived it looked like a casserole with dried out rice on the side. There was no hint of coconut milk, no spicy heat and no element sweetness. It was slimy, quite unpleasant and the rice tasted warmed up. I never return food, but I did last night. The waitress was apologetic and offered to get me another, but I really didn’t trust the chef to get it right. So I had nothing. I wasn’t charged, but I really felt that the manager or whoever was in charge should have come over and apologised. I would have done so, had I been in charge. They didn’t and I won’t be going back again. It’s a shame.

I have to av... read more The restaurant looked lovely inside. I loved the real fire and the the Christmas tree. It was very sweet. Just one comment before I go any further. I have to avoid gluten and they had a great range of conventional beers. I miss real beer (not larger) and it would be really nice to have a couple of GF beers on offer. As it was, I had to stick with boring old Magners. So, my main course was red Thai chicken curry and it was very nice. I wasn’t that keen on the sauce that came with my BBQ ribs starter, but that’s probably me. I’m not a big fan of ribs and I ordered them because almost all the other starters had a wheat component. Service was excellent, my ciders were nice and cold and the coffee was very good. I came to Bar 163 before a trip to the Everyman cinema, just around the corner. I’m very glad I did rather than grabbing something in the cinema. It’s the ideal place to eat if you are treating yourself to some posh flicks. I’ll happily come back.

The music is good, the Peroni perfect and the service is friendyl. I enjoyed a very pleasant beef bourguignon today. It's really nice to have somewhere to eat that is not part of a large chain.
