It’s a wonderful Mexican bakery, and I’m serious when I say it’s the best I’ve encountered in the US far having been to all 50 states The pastries are out of this world, and they are what we would actually call truly homemade. Highly recommended. The prices are equally amazing.

Exceptional local bakery! Our family of five found ourselves stranded in Edwards, just east of Vail Pass, during a snowstorm on Monday. While searching for a cozy place to wait it out, we stumbled upon Panaderia Azteka. As soon as we stepped inside, it felt like entering paradise. The air was filled with delightful aromas, and colorful pastries were beautifully displayed everywhere. Behind the counter, the owner was diligently crafting his creations next to a towering pile of sweet dough. We were captivated as we watched him skillfully turn small dough balls into stunning confections. He shared the heartfelt story of his parents and how he honors their memory through his baking. To say his creations are made with love would be an understatement. We sampled a variety of pastries and breads, all of which brought huge smiles to our children’s faces. I highly recommend this gem to anyone. This unexpected stop became a true highlight of our trip.

Unlike many areas in the Vail Valley, Edwards boasts a substantial Latinx population, which I believe contributes to the vibrant culinary scene. I had heard about Panaderia Azteca for several months but didn’t give it much thought until a neighbor gushed about their capriotada—a Mexican-style bread pudding I'd never even heard of, despite my love for flan and tres leches cake. After multiple unsuccessful attempts to find capriotada, I learned on my fifth visit that they only bake a limited quantity early in the morning, and it tends to sell out quickly. I’m determined to get to Panaderia Azteca at the right time to sample their capriotada, but in the meantime, I've been savoring some delightful treats like bolios (both plain and with cream cheese), powdered-sugar wedding cookies, and the most delicious pineapple-filled empanadas. There are so many other varieties I haven’t tried yet, but I can’t wait to experience the capriotada fresh out of the oven one lovely morning! For now, my favorites are the bolios, but the empanadas and wedding cookies are simply exceptional!

Outstanding local bakery! Our family of five was stuck in Edwards east of Vail Pass during a snowstorm on Monday and while looking for a place to wait out the storm we discovered Panaderia Azteka. Walking through the door we stepped into heaven. So many wonderful smells filling the air, beautiful multicolored pastries everywhere, and behind the counter the owner working his craft beside a giant pile of sweet dough. We were mesmerized watching him skillfully transform small balls of dough into beautiful works of art. He shared with us the story of his parents passing on and his journey to honor them through his baking. To say his food is made with love would be understating things. We tried many different pastries and breads, all of which brought huge smiles to our children's faces. I recommend this spot to anyone. This unplanned pit stop became a highlight of our trip.
