Contribute FeedbackSyphay Thai Restaurant has received mixed reviews from customers. While some have expressed disappointment with the slow service and issues with takeout orders, others have raved about the delicious food and generous portions. Despite its sketchy exterior, the restaurant offers a cozy atmosphere with a great variety of Thai dishes to choose from. Customer service seems to be hit or miss, with some feeling let down by the lack of attentiveness from staff. Overall, Syphay Thai Restaurant seems to be a popular spot for those looking for authentic Thai cuisine in Edmonton, with some minor hiccups in the overall dining experience.
My wife and I stopped by on suggestion and we were pleasantly satisfied. I had the Pad Lao which was absolutely delicious and full flavoured. We ordered pork spring rolls and they were the highlight of the evening, crispy and very tasty. Did not care for the pineapple/shrimp deep fried taco, flavourless and oily but the salad rolls were wonderfully refreshing. My wife had a Kow-Poun noodle salad that she throughly enjoyed. The lychee juice is a must!
Had spring rolls, pad Thai and salad. All were very poor. Server gave a small discount but we will not retur.
So normally I'd be a little miffed about a 2 hour wait time for take out (plus 30 min on top of the predicted time), especially when it coincided with missing Mcdavids beaut goal 42s into OT, however, the food is 100% worth it. With covid restaraunts are still figuring out how to manage with fewer cooks and mass amounts of orders rolling in so it's understandable wait times will be longer than expected but do not let that deter you from ordering here. Tohm Yum was unreal, phanag curry unreal, Pad Thai best I've had in North America with one exception (Mae Nam in Vancouver), just amazing. They also included a $10 gift certificate for the long wait which was a nice touch and definitely appreciated. Only complaint is that everything is in styro containers with moving towards better environmental practices cardboard containers would be a more appropriate option and I'd happily pay the extra 10¢ per order for that. Long and the short: eat here. If you like Thai food, just do it!
Only 2 times to this restaurant and had issues both times. First time was takeout and a 75 minute wait time, however, waited another 30 minutes for the meal when I went to pick up. They did give a coupon to come back Food was great, The second time, ate in for lunch and ordered takeout for supper. The waitress added panang onto the order and I did not notice until supper time. I cannot do Panang due to an autoimmune issue so would have never ordered it. So disappointed. Would have loved to have my tip back, but management didn't know how to do that. Great Food poor service. Soup took a half hour to serve as well.
I was craving Authentic Thai food and this place hit the spot for me. The portions are huge so ended up taking the rest home, and the best part of Thai food is that it tastes amazing the day after as well! The service was slower than I would have liked, however, the food was so yummy that it deserves 5 stars.
