Always wanted to go for lunch here and wasn't disappointed. My partner had a delicate spinach omelette served with sliced tomatoes and a small jar of watermelon chunks. I chose the special of the day which was a ciabatta sandwich with smoked ham and chicken and a delicious sauce. I loved the atmosphere. It's across from the French campus of the U of A so the vibe is young and modern. All staff is bilingual so you can... View all feedback.
I took my husband there for his birthday brunch. We arrived at 10am on a Sunday. There were still ample parking available and the cafe was only half full. We sat ourselves down and began to use my limited French to navigate the menu that was written on the wall.My husband ordered an Omelettes with Jambon Edam (ham and Edam cheese) $11 and I had a Croissant with 2 oeufs, Edam et bacon (2 eggs, Edam cheese and bacon) $10.50. We both had latte and we were sharing a small poutine $6 as well. We knew before we went that everything will be in French. The menu is easy enough to navigate even without knowing much French and Google definitely helps. We ordered at the counter, thank goodness the cashier did speak English, and got our utensils basket that had our order number. The latte came first and the food were brought out to us a reasonable amount of time after. The latte were alright. Nothing special but not bad at all.A little bit disappointed at the omelette, it was just a piece of overcooked egg with 2 pieces of ham placed on top. There were a little bit of cheese in the egg. It came with a small side of small potato wedges marinated in herb-infused oil, which tastes refreshing. The grilled halved grapefruit was an interesting side. The croissant was better. The croissant was not super flaky and buttery but it was not bad either. The over easy eggs were cooked perfectly with runny yolks and the bacon were crispy and salty as they should be. The cheese were melted on top of the bacon. The poutine was good. My husband loved it. I was just okay with it. The fries were able to hold their integrity and there were enough amount of cheese curds. Not sure if the gravy was not hot enough or because it was at the bottom, the cheese didn't melt as I wanted them to be. I felt like there something missing from the gravy, the taste was off but I still couldn't figure out what was missing. Since the birthday boy loved it, I guess it is still a good enough poutine.Overall, it's a very comfortable and cozy cafe with good ambiance (I don't like their floor tiles though). The cushions on the bench seat are comfortable and the books along the wall shelf and the brick wall make the area looks interesting. The food was not bad but they were not good either. It's an alright place to go if you want some French atmosphere or if you want to have a latte and read some books. I'm sure the place would be more interesting in the summer time when the patio is opened.
As a group of twelve family members, we received excellent service. Although the restaurant was full, our servers were very attentive. The food was so good! One of our group enjoyed the French Onion soup and said it was the best she had ever had. For the mains, many of us tried the lamb dish with risotto. The lamb was delicious and the risotto done to perfection. The wine was very accessible, each of their bottles was $28. The Pinot Noir they offered was just fine for our lamb. Thank you to the staff for making our evening so memorable for our family reunion.
We had lunch at Cafe Bicyclette when on a business trip. The menu is perfect for a light lunch. Sandwiches, soups, salads, quiches, omelettes are classics with a twist.
WE had breakfast there today and what a lovely encounter~ The vintage Hi Fi was playing LP's ( My Fair Lady Music) and served us Espresso's to perfection. The Meals were priced right and beyond delicious~ They probably have the BEST fresh Croissants in the City!! Can't wait to go back, practice my French language ( yes they Parlez Anglais[Speak English] too!) and enjoy another wonderful meal ~Petit Dejuner ( Breakfast) or one of their fabulous looking sandwiches or Quiche)
Where to start. This place is absolutely amazing. Lovely, cozy, charming, welcoming And sooooo delicious. The lattés are not only beautiful but Oh! So good. The food is tasty, the portions are perfect the ingredients excellent and the staff super friendly. Being a small restaurant they've done amazing by extending to the outside so that you can enjoy your coffee by a wood stove with a borrowed blanket and enjoy the fresh air. I pretty much made it a tradition to stop by on weekends to grab a coffee and a bag of bagel st-viateur.
