Papparich - Edison
Papparich
Description
Set in a busy supermarket complex, this Malaysian spot delivers mostly authentic, flavorful plates—standouts include roti canai, Hainan chicken (when well-prepared), satay and curry laksa—served in a clean, picture-filled dining room. Expect small portions, slightly higher prices, and hit-or-miss execution: some dishes lack heat or are fatty, and the iced dessert tastes artificial. The kitchen turns orders quickly, but front-of-house can be understaffed and slow, though staff are friendly and apologetic. Best for casual diners seeking Malaysian flavors; skip the pictured ice dessert.

3/15/2021: papa rich is permanently closed and replaced by Tasty Moment Entrees are pretty tasty but portions are a bit small. The wait staff was slow. Kitchen crew was fast. The restaurant itself is clean and looks good. Skip the ice dessert with the large picture in the menu. The flavor is very similar to the chocolate caramel hard candy. The toppings tasted old and date. The syrup flavor tasted heavily like fake sugar.
What Annie Wu dislikes about Papparich:
Arrived 11:30am today (Sunday), and 1/3 already seated. Only 3 people working the entire restaurant, they served water pretty quick but waited over 10 minutes to come back to take the order. Another 15 minutes passed, the waitress Alice came with a big smile and apologized that there are a few big tables arrived the same time and not enough people in kitchen and she asked if it is ok to serve whichever is ready. Our first experience at this restaurant in the Hmart complex in Edison was fantastic. It is conveniently located on the corner facing Route 27, and we were surprised we had never noticed it before. We were the first customers to sit down on a Saturday afternoon. The menu was filled with pictures that were helpful in making our selections. We ordered the canai with huh, Hainan steamed chicken set, nasi goreng, penang char kway teow, Satay mix, curry powder chicken wing, and tay tarik. The canai with huh came with three different dipping sauces: curry huh, yellow sauce, and a red sauce. The roti was crispy and not greasy. The Hainan chicken was delicious, especially with the ginger sauce it came with, as well as a sweet soy sauce and a red sweet sauce. The curry chicken wings were nothing special and could easily be made at home. The beef chicken kabobs were tender and paired well with the curry sweet dipping sauce. The three roasted rice was average and not something we would order again. We also ordered the hot-drawn tea, which was a bit too sweet for our liking, but after adding some water it was perfect. The waitresses were all very friendly and we had a great overall dining experience.
Papa Rich has permanently closed and been replaced by Tasty Moment. The entrees at Tasty Moment are quite tasty, but the portions are a bit small. The waiting staff was slow, but the kitchen crew was fast. The restaurant is clean and has a nice appearance. I would recommend skipping the ice dessert with the big picture on the menu, as it tastes very similar to chocolate caramel hard candies. The toppings tasted old and the syrup had a strong, artificial taste.

The food is not bad, but not as good as other Malaysian restaurants in the area. It is also pricier. I was craving Hainese chicken rice so I came here, however the cuts of chicken were either fatty or tough. I also got spicy tofu, it was delicious but not spicy at all. I would give the food 3 stars, but I'm giving the restaurant 2 stars because of the service. They are definitely understaffed resulting in poor service. When I was seated we weren't offered drinks or utensils. Had to hunt down the
