The Espy offers a mixed dining experience, with some diners enjoying the fabulous location and good milkshakes, while others found the service unfriendly and slow. The menu received mixed reviews, with some dishes being delicious and others disappointing. The venue itself offers a warm atmosphere and lovely views of Portobello Beach. While some patrons praised the cocktails and staff, others found the restaurant to be declining in quality. Overall, the Espy seems to divide opinions among visitors, making it a somewhat unpredictable dining choice.

This restaurant has been declining for years. They need to determine if they are a bar or a restaurant. The service was intrusive. We were only here for a drink, but they were out of two types of ale early on a Saturday night. It was also not well heated on a cold night. I will not be coming back.

The staff at the restaurant were friendly. The menu offered a variety of classic dishes, as well as some Scottish specialties like cullen skink and a burger topped with haggis. They also had a selection of smoothies. However, I was taken aback by the large number of dogs in the restaurant - there were more dogs than children, and they were not all well behaved. Some dog walkers even brought in multiple dogs on leashes. Additionally, one of the waitresses served water bowls to the dogs and then served human meals without washing her hands. Overall, this establishment was not my cup of tea.

Lovely hot rum cocktails overlooking the beach. Really good soup and attentive staff. Menu has a really good mix of food and drink and lots of interesting photos to look at.

We only popped in for a hot drink as the beech was freezing cold. It was a lovely warm atmosphere and the staff are very friendly. The food we seen arriving at tables looked tasty. Sadly we were not hungry but the menu looked varied and if the hot drinks were anything to go by I am sure the food is great. Situated right in the beach you could not get any closer. Try get a window seat and watch the waves .

I was actually shocked at the food! We ordered 2 dirty fries and they were literally brought to the table in a couple of minutes. This for me was an immediate big red flag. The presentation was awful and taste just as bad. £8:95, nearly £9 each for this!! I’ve posted the photos…just incase you may give them the benefit of the doubt!! Very disappointing as I’m pretty broke just now and this was a very rare treat!
