Contribute FeedbackThai Pad has garnered a reputation for its vibrant culinary offerings, drawing mixed yet notable feedback from diners. Many rave about the freshness of ingredients and the exquisite flavors of curries and soups, with standout dishes creating delightful takeout experiences. However, some guests expressed disappointment over service inconsistencies and temperature issues with main courses. Despite its tucked-away location and unassuming decor, the restaurant promises an enjoyable dining experience, especially for those seeking authentic Thai flavors. While not everyone left completely satisfied, the potential for a memorable meal shines through, making it worth a visit for adventurous eaters.
I made a reservation well in advance and was surprised to receive a phone call on December 30th at 10:00pm informing me that the restaurant would be closed on December 31st. It was disappointing as we were celebrating my partner's birthday and it ended up ruining our New Year's Eve plans. I have visited this restaurant numerous times before, even for takeout, but I am hesitant to return after this experience as I never received an apology. It is truly a shame.
During my stay at Hotel20, I decided to make a reservation at Thai Pad for dinner to make things easy. My friends and I were heading to the theatre, so we booked a table for a pre-theatre meal. We were the first customers at the restaurant, so our food was freshly prepared. And let me tell you, it was definitely worth the wait! Each of us ordered different dishes, and every single one was excellent. We each enjoyed 2 courses and shared 3 side dishes. We also had a bottle of wine, and the total bill came to £54, which was absolutely incredible. I highly recommend visiting this restaurant if you are in Edinburgh. You won't be disappointed, even though it may take a bit of searching to find it. Trust me, it's worth it.
We chose the Thai Pad based on reviews we had read and we were not disappointed, the food was exceptionally good and very reasonably priced. You have to go downstairs to get to it but do not be put off, we'll worth it.
The host was efficient in providing service but lacked warmth and responsiveness. We asked for the tealights to be lit politely, which he did without speaking. The overall atmosphere, including the fern-covered entrance, was strange. It's a pity because the food was excellent. We might consider getting takeout instead of dining in, as we cannot recommend the restaurant itself.
Right..I have to confess.. I must be a thai pod myself. I have ordered from here on so many occassions it reallllllly is so fantastic!!! Just last weekend..i kid you not..i ordered main dishes and rice and soup on the saturday. Did the same order on the sunday!!! With added additions of course. Their curries are super. Tom yum soup yummm. Fresh ingredients, well seasoned beef, creamy curries, light fluffy rice or sticky warm rice, great use of vegetables and portion size makes this place so worth ordering a takeaway from even if it is minutes wait. I love it. I am thai podded forever.
